"The complete truth of what I love and hate about Wellesley, for Prospies,", posted on The Lampost

I don’t agree with everything in this post in “The Lampost”:The complete truth of what I love and hate about Wellesley, for Prospies, http://wellesleylamppost.com. But I think it is good for prospective students to read. It’s so hard to describe the atmosphere at Wellesley, or to get a good feel for it even if you visit. Very unique place.

Great reference, thank you for posting!

Thanks for posting! @justdoesntmatter can you elaborate on what you agree/disagree with?

@iloveicecream01 Sorry, I just realized there are a bunch of other posts on that Tumblr link, and I can’t figure out how to include a direct link to what I referenced above. Just scroll down and you’ll still find it there. Or read the other Tumblr posts. As you’ll see, many are about loneliness. That’s what I can’t figure out about this place. Why are SO MANY people lonely and depressed? When I read that “Lampost” post, I really connected with the author when she wrote about brushing her teeth next to dorm residents whose names she doesn’t know. A lot of students here walk around as if they have blinders on. For someone like me, who isn’t terribly outgoing, it’s hard to say “hi” to someone who clearly isn’t interested in socializing. I disagree with the part about students being kind. I think people are kind on social media like YikYak, when someone writes that they are struggling, but in person, a lot of people are just wrapped up in their own issues and don’t seem to care about anyone else. I also disagree with the writer’s viewpoint on competition. Maybe competitive isn’t the right word, but the academic atmosphere feels intense because we are all competing to get one of those rare A’s. I don’t get a great sense of community here, but some do. As some other CC posters wrote in response to your other post, sometimes it depends on luck. If you get a great roommate, good for you. Otherwise, it’s hard to find other first years because all the dorms mix everyone up. There might only be a few first years on your floor. I have a bunch of acquaintances, but haven’t found any close friends yet. But, there’s still time. A lot of LGTQA acquaintances really seem to have found their community here. You might love Wellesley. It depends on what you are looking for. I think you need to go with your gut.
