The Countdown

@EmpathyInAnarchy

You think bringing a car is “unnecessary and expensive” (agreed), yet you are willing to pay 1000 for rent? Eh, to each her/his own. If I had that kind of doe, I’d much rather pay 400 for rent and spend the extra money on somethen else.

Instead I’m going for the absolute cheapest I can, as in: if i could live in a tent in someone’s back yard, i’d do it in a heartbeat. Living like Hiro Protagonist in a storage complex seems cool, or just sleaping in a homeless shelter… But alas, I’ve not the huevos to pull it off.

^ I’ve had my share of “cheap” living situations, which ultimately lead to buttholes for roommates and tons of stress. I want to be as comfortable as possible while I’m laying the foundations for my future and my future knowledge. An extra couple thousand dollars of debt isn’t that big of a deal for an engineering major.

My comment about cars was more to say unnecessarily expensive, because you effectively have to pay rent for your car (insurance, gas, and secured parking), as opposed to necessarily expensive like paying for solitude and comfort. But it certainly is a subjective necessity.

I’ve got a good question regarding housing. Alright, so say we want to join a fraternity; we are obviously going to need a place to stay at Cal for the first semester at least, correct? Yes. So, if I give Berkeley my deposit to reserve housing, will I be able to get it back when I don’t end up staying the whole year? Or would I need to get an apartment instead of living in a dorm for that one semester?

@empathy wow dude, $1,000 is a pretty big housing budget. you’ll be living high on the hog, I spose.

@solidblu- from what I understand about the UC frats/soros, transfers are expected to live in the house their 4th year, not during the third, since it’s unlikely anyone will move out halfway through the year. Obviously that changes for each group and how much room they have, but that’s the general expectation at least. Sorry I don’t have a link- I’ve just been looking at lots of Greek links at Cal/UCLA/UCSB for the past month.

Thanks kernl :)

I live to serve :p

25 and counting!!!

Davis on Wednesday is what I hear? April 7th? I think someone said that.

I wonder if next year’s crowd of prospective transfers will be as crazy, excited, and closely-knit as we all have become. I also wonder if they will have ■■■■■■ that can live up to laker and vintij lol. I can’t believe we’re heading into the final stretch, guys.

@emil I doubt that man haha, this is def the best group of kids yet
Final stretch! Holy crap! You know what amazes me, is thinking about the fact that no matter what happens, about two months from now I’ll be moving out of my parents’ house. That blows my mind, I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.
Are you guys planning on doing a Summer Start program??

YEEES seriously man. I can’t wait to move out! lol all my friends have already, and it’s become so boring where I live. Burlingame, California…if anyone’s been here or lived here, you’ll understand my pain lol.

As for summer start programs, I don’t think I’m doing one. However, I am doing summer school at UCB if I get in. I’m registered and can see Telebears. Also, I received an offer to live in Cloyne Court over the summer! Alas, these developments are prematurely making me feel like a student, and consequently, I could end up really screwing myself over if I am not accepted. Oh well…I’m a gambler. I love risks!

Do you have to get an “offer” before you can live in Cloyne court? Actually, I did find a Berkeley Summer Program, check this out: http://summer.berkeley.edu/transfer/description</a> Should we be interested in this??

btw, is it too late to get a summer class if I wanted one? :)

It’s only too late if the class is full. I’ve already signed up for one class, and will be getting another class later.

@ AJ: Yeah man, lol that’s the summer session I’m doing! Summer session is summer school. I’m registered for 2 classes. You could register for one right now if you wanted! The longer you wait, though, the less space will be available in classes.

I didn’t want to risk not getting into my classes, so I registered and paid already. If I don’t get into UCB for this fall, I have the option to withdraw from my classes and get paid back in full (minus the 150$ deposit charge).

So, I’m risking 150$ on this. Other than that, if I get in, I’ll be going to summer school at Berkeley and living in Cloyne! You get a bid by filling out a Co-op application online. You wait about 2 weeks, and then you’ll find out where you’re placed to live in. Cloyne’s huge and is a great option for living in because of all the people I’ll meet. Almost all new co-opers, such as myself, are placed in Cloyne. Over summer, quads become doubles and triples become singles! It’s a sweet ride.

25 more days!

Wait a second, WAIT a second! haha I’m confused, I thought you were just enrolled in “summer school” and you said you weren’t doing summer start. The thing I linked to was for transfer admits for Fall 2010 only, right? Are you saying it is possible to enroll in the Berkeley Transfer Summer Session right now??? Dude! I’m on it! I’m signing up for that right now!

Ok hold on a sec lol. I’ve never seen this transfer summer session. I just thought it was the same as normal summer session. I think they are the same, but transfer summer session is just specifically designed for transfers (as in Session C & D). I’m actually registered for C & D lol, so I’m in the same session time.

What I’ll do is if I’m admitted I’m going to contact UCB and switch from visiting student status (as I had to apply for summer since I’m not admitted yet) to transfer student status.

I think the transfer student session offers a few perks like those events that were listed on the link you shared. I don’t think (as I’m still registered as visiting) anything else is different. We can talk the same classes and have the same housing options. It’s the events that visitors aren’t offered.

Thus, I’ll switch from visitor to student if/when I’m admitted :).

Oh cool man, I’m going to start looking into it, Maybe I should register for summer classes now too like you did to reserve my spot.

A little Eminem for you guys! lol, i don’t like him I was reading the threads though and im so anxious that my palms are sweaty…lol thought of the M masta.
Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted-One moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?

Yeah,
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti
He’s nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready
To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgetting
What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won’t come out
He’s choking how, everybody’s joking now

i know, im a nerd. please don’t post anything mean :)…not that you guys ever say anything mean to anyone! lol

I don’t see a point in why you posted that eminem verse.
It’s a bad song to begin with, plus its mainstream.
