What’s your major Sunnyseas?

I’m still waiting on Cal but without my pre-req’s done, I’m not sure.
3.84 GPA
Only 1 Pre-req done by Spring, 4 done by summer, but it’s out of 9 and engineering major.
Essay: 9/10
EC’s: Just one of those non traditional students. No degrees from parents, dad didn’t graduate high school. I included in my essay a story about how when I was only in 4th grade, my father couldn’t help me with my math homework when I asked him. I took a long break from school to work.

To be honest, with recent developments in my love life, I have no idea if I’d choose SD over Davis. The turn off with Cal is the semester system. It’d push my graduation to 2014!

As far as SD and LA: The thing is, it depends on major. UC Berkeley, Los Angeles and San Diego are extremely competitive in some majors. For example, engineering. In engineering, Berkeley has some better departments, Los Angeles has some better departments, and even San Diego has better departments (Bioengineering).

For economics, it’s different, as it is for chemistry. Berkeley has a relatively weak Chemistry department and most of the undergraduates who are considering pharmacology end up going to Davis for Junior and Senior year. (Davis has one of the best undergraduate chemistry departments)

Beyond that, what do you enjoy doing? Los Angeles isn’t close to the beach by any means, whereas UCSD is about a 5 minute bus ride from Black Beach or La Jolla Cove. Do you want to see really beautiful women? UCSD’s girls are kind of… eh. They go to class without make up, wear sweats. I personally think they’re cute. I think SDSU girls look a little too provocative for me. UCLA’s females tromp Cal and San Diego’s. Of course, what gender you are matters too. SD is like Berkeley in that, there’s more females than males.

This means, not difficult for a guy, but can be cumbersome for a girl.

Also, if you’re a science major, UCLA’s campus has this predisposition where you feel out of place compared to other majors. Their science departments are at the south end of the campus, called “south campus” pretty much and the social people I met from UCLA were all from north campus. It might’ve been the other way around, but at UCSD, Jacob’s is right next to the library and Biomedical Sciences is across the street from the walk to price center. So at UCSD, as a Bioengineering major, I don’t feel out of place because my classes are right next to social areas. At UCLA, I’d have to go “over there to that science side of the campus with all the nerds.” It’s rather condescending.
