The Ethical Dilemma Prompt

Not all of us have had an ethical dilemma worth writing about. What if I just wrote about my experiences struggling over whether or not to eat the last of a leftover pie?

They're basically trying to see how well you're going to uphold their honor code. Doing something like that would really work for the fun/humor prompt, but not there. :/

I'm sure you've had something.... just nothing you remember!
Someone asking to copy (not collaborate on) your homework? Asking for answers on a test? Scribbling in that last word on an AP test? There's something you've faced, just reach deep. :]

I don't think I've ever been in that position before...and I have some really clever excuses for not letting someone copy homework.

Well, talk about that!
Something like, "I hold honor in high regard, so much that I think of the wildest excuses to prevent someone from copying me."

Eh, well, I thought my pie response was funny at least.

Amazing you responded though, its 5:12 am over here

Well, go for it!
It shows that you even have humor on a serious prompt, something that a lot of techers have.

Oh, and i've been working on my application for the past 12 hours.
waiting until the last minute wasn't brillant.

I can't help but wandering what a current CalTech student who has been on the admissions committee has to say. I wonder if its too late to hope one of them is on and reads this?

Mmm I don't know how much help it would be, but I didn't have a serious dilemma to write about last year either, so I wrote about refusing to tell my friends if our teacher checked homework that day, since they had that class after lunch and I had it in the morning. x:

Hmmm...

No one really spells it CalTech. It's Caltech. :)

You don't seem to be experiencing any ethical dilemma regarding whether to make something up for this prompt, but you could be. And then you'd be possibly both taking my idea and lying. Which would give you an idea, which would... etc.

hahahaha minjabenji...

The prompt assumes "questions of ethics, honesty, and integrity are sometimes challenging," which seems to me a barely logical statement. I now regret that I refuted this statement in my application a little too emotoinally (since this prompt was driving me crazy back then), but I really wish Caltech could work out a better question, which can might well be related to the honor code, for next year.

I wrote about how i wondered if I should give money to small beggar children in Mumbai since the money will most likely end up in an underworld teeming with drugs, prostitution etc. In the end I bought them some food.

I know it's probably not very relevant to the "Honor Code", but I couldn't think of anything else.
Any thoughts?

My thought: don't write something stupid or crazy that will get your reader questioning your integrity. I would just play it safe and write something bland and straightforward. I doubt some amazing story will get the reader to think that you're suddenly more qualified for Caltech.

I wrote about an Ex-Girlfriend who was trying to get me to do drugs and other bad things..

heh heh.

@GlutuesMinimus:

You should have mentioned something about having given the food to orphans or something.

Nice screen name, by the way

you should write about your ethical dilemma of whether or not to make up a story for this prompt. Resulting in the fact that you decided against making something up and you realized yourself in an applicable ethical dilemma of itself.

Could be clever if you can be creative and are a strong writer...
