The excrutiating Admission Room

Well, I'm 5'9" and I certainly don't feel short. It's all about perspective. There are definitely super tall and super short people here.

Awesome! I stand some chance by physical standards, hehe.

Do you go to H xjayz?

Yes. I'm a freshman here.

no, harvard is NOT tall. I'm a 5'7" girl, and I am taller than many people here. especially the guys, I feel like, are short. it's really putting a damper on my stiletto heel collection.

My sister goes to Harvard so I hang out on campus fairly often, and I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

They should resort to accepting people for the amount of "manliness" they show lol. I was reading that New Yorker article, so funny (lol Short with big ears). Woo! Judge people by physical appearances and athletic merit. I would so be a lock :(

I actually WOULD be a lock :-D

They need people like us, running. Its a shame academia has actually become more academit merit leaning. lol

I know! What kind of college would turn down a 6'4, muscular hotty for some straight-A, 2400 SAT, 800x3 SAT II, scholarly nerd? I'm telling you, this "academic meritocracy" that Harvard is trying to promote is rediculous :-P.

i agree runningcircles, but i think it is ridiculous as well

im far from homophobic, but hearing "6'4, muscular hotty" from runnungcircles is making me laugh in an uncomfortable manner.

I know a couple of gay people, and its kinda funny hearing out their mouths as well. I just wanted to know runningcircles1 do feel kinda of intimidated by others who dont see it as funny and see it as blasphemous. Im black and let me tell you blacks and latinos are often the ones who lash out on gays the hardest especially the immigrent flavor from africa, carribean, and south america. Ironically they are the ones who often get discriminated against. Im asking you this because in my school, THERE ARE NO GAYS/LESBIANS, and i have yet to really encounter such people despite living in Washington, D.C., which unfortunately is not such a cosmopoliton progressive place as it sounds with 75% of the city off-limits to the young 20 something educated people.

Oh, I was referring to myself, Biz. LOL... I got a bit of a cocky spark there.

If someone tells me kindly to lay off the jokes I will. Buuuuut, when they say something like "hey fag! shut your f-ing mouth," well, I can defend my own, LOL... and will.

And, are you sure about Latinos lashing out? They are generally a bit more accepting of the gay culture (at least here).

i have observed....short people generally score better on tests like the SAT...just my observation ...feel free to disagree

now do i need to mention, i am 5'9" ?? :D

"What kind of college would turn down a 6'4, muscular hotty for some straight-A, 2400 SAT, 800x3 SAT II, scholarly nerd?"

well most of the adcoms are 'straight males' and they view a 6'4 muscular hotty as
COMPETITION
:)

Oh, it's an inside joke... you have to read the link at the bottom of page one.

du uh?
if your post was meant for me.
i didnt get you. (well yes i am pretty dumb....atleast i am not ugly dumb...:)..)
so dont expect me to understand..

and my

"well most of the adcoms are 'straight males' and they view a 6'4 muscular hotty as
COMPETITION"

was supposed to be a joke(=something that makes you laugh.)
hey. my jokes aren't that bad :(

so anyways.

Wow, I read the entire article...pretty entertaining. I should do pretty well on the "personal characteristics" component though...I've had two alumni interviews so far, and they've been great. I might not be "straight-A, 2400 SAT, 800x3 SAT II, scholarly nerd," but I'm generally a pleasant, distinctive personality...or at least I'd hope so!

I'm 6'5" and I scored 2350. People at Harvard are NOT taller by any means. It's funny how one's opinion of people can invision these people as being taller than they are. I work at this grocery store where there's this really short fat lady and everyone describes her as a 6'0 tall women that's just shaped like a pear. LMFAO. She's 5'4", at best.... I work out like 4 days a week and I'm the tallest kid in my school and I've often been asked by relatives if I'm 6 "foot" (old people never say feet) tall yet. One's personality has a lot to do with how others view them. Kinda like how there're ugly people at school who are in the "popular group" but because they're in that group, people think they're beautiful.... Do you know what I mean?

yes.
what you say indeed makes sense.
but then beauty lies in the eye of the beholder :D
(ok. i know that was silly)
