The finest scenes in movies

This is ONE of mine from “Amadeus.” Both the movie and F. Murray Abraham deserved every accolade possible. This scene is the finest of the fine for me:

The scene in Hoosiers when the team is intimidated when seeing Hinkle Fieldhouse for the first time, and Coach Dale starts to measure the rim height, distance to foul line, etc, and makes the point that the court is no different than the one in their little gym in Hickory.

Gave me goosebumps seeing that in a theater for the first time.

Then again, I am a crazy sports fan. LOVE that scene!

I am overwhelmed by this question. So many options.

The final courtroom scene in “A Few Good Men” with Nicholson and Cruise.

The first ten minutes of “Up” with Giacchino’s “Married Life” playing in the background.

The reveal in “The Usual Suspects.”

“Dad, do you want to have a catch?” from Field of Dreams.

The Copacabana tracking shot in “Goodfellas.”

And for the CC crowd, the last scene of “Toy Story 3.”

So, so many, but I’ll never forget the first time I saw Rhett Butler at the foot of the staircase at the Twelve Oaks BBQ smiling up at Scarlett…with that “look.” I was about 16 at the time and I gasped.

The Sally Fields scene in Steel Magnolias–she is amazing–the build up about the service-- and the look on her friends faces and then how they end it is great.

The Emma Thompson scene when she doesn’t get the necklace in Love Actually, when she’s alone in her bedroom. I love how she just picks herself up at the end, more painful than when she’s crying because we know she has to go on.

Absolutely amazing :ok_hand:

My absolute favorite!

So many scenes form Godfather are noteworthy, but I’ll mention two, perhaps lesser appreciated scenes:

  1. The restaurant scene where Michael Corleone, Sollozzo and the crooked police captain are at the table and the waiter comes with the bottle of wine. No one talks while we wait for the waiter to open and pour the wine but the anticipation grows and the looks across the table say everything. It starts at 2:48 in the below link. 2. Leave the gun. Take the Cannoli: Leave the gun Take the cannoli - YouTube

A lot of oldies:

Yes, the Rhett Butler reveal in GWTW.

The tracking shot and opening line of “Father of the Bride” (the original.)

The opening “morning newspapers” scene in “Adams Rib” (has Hepburn ever looked more relaxed and grounded in her acting?)

The Myrna Loy reveal in “Best Years of Our Lives”.

The drunk scene between Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart in “Philadelphia Story”

The Nick Charles reveal in the original “Thin Man” (takes up where the novel begins.)

So many more. But, I’ll stop here.

I remember my first time seeing this scene on the big screen; she was one of the most beautiful women I’d ever seen when she came out in this dress.

Plains, Trains, and Automobiles where Steve Martin realizes he’s drying his face with John Candy’s underwear. Maybe not the ‘finest’ in movie scenes but memorable.

Bluto’s speech in Animal House. Highly motivating.

Nicholson in a Few Good Men.

Throw a John Wayne in there.

Toy Story 3 ending. Needed a box of tissues.

Hard to argue Gone with the Wind or anything from The Godfather.

Also sports related- Dennis Quaid in The Rookie. When the call is made to the bullpen and he then walks out to the mound.

Forrest at Jenny’s grave… “I miss you Jenny”

I used to use this scene from “Remember the Titans” in my Intro to Management course; the last line was perfection.
