Hi, I lived in an apartment off-campus this year and had to learn to cook some basic meals, although I ate dining hall food sometimes too. My mom bought me Cooking for Dummies which was handy, although Googling “Easy Recipes” or “Simple Meals” will give you a lot of easy recipes. I learned to make like 5 simple meals which I ate over and over again lol…I do love chicken cutlets And turkey/chicken leftovers can always be tossed into simple salads or used for sandwiches which are quick and easy to make. Scroll down to the bottom of this site for some easy recipes, there’s different sections you can choose:

Hey Ron Paul you said you want to go to UW right? Just so you know they don’t have a buffet-style eating style. It’s a la carte stuff with your student ID. So unfortunately no late night buffets for you :)

I’ve gained 5 lbs this semester sigh.(it was sorta intentional though) My clothes still fit thank god. But this is the first time I gained weight since freshman year (i gained 5 lbs in freshman year) I tend to lose around 10 lbs a year so I tried to lose weight too quickly so I had to gain back weight. But not happy! >_< GRRR pants that were too big now fits! grr!

but basically… uh exercise. Use the free gym to its full potential haha. That’s how I basically lost weight… and eat less, check the nutritional info. DON’T CUT OUT fat. Eat enough proteins and all that good jazz. I didn’t eat enough fat last year so I started eating entire avocados to make up for it ><. I only have size 0 clothes so if I gain weight… uhhhhhhh… uhhh yeah I won’t have anything to wear except slacks so I need to work it off. I used to have flat abs… not anymore haha TT sigh. dang summer!

I tend to eat at home though and not at the dining options. I can’t keep up with what I’m eating if I don’t eat at home~ Don’t eat pizza and fast food… learn to enjoy vegetables and fruits as snacks. Don’t cut out all of your sweets though have them every now and then… I think I want to have one day in a week where I just eat crap all day long because I never buy them (I eat it allll, quite horrible). I’m a jr now but lost like 20 lbs since freshman year living on campus (cooking at home)

don’t talk about things you don’t know about. i was a vegan for eight years before i came here and was in tremendous physical shape and have read EXTENSIVELY about appropriate nutrition and am also an excellent cook who was very satisfied with the taste of her meals. i think you’re confused because the average american consumes far too MUCH protein and dairy and far less fruits, veggies, and whole-grain carbs (and by the way, please tell me how an all-natural whole grain bagel is not healthy, i’m begging you, you brilliant nutritionist), you know, the stuff that you’re SUPPOSED to consume the most of (http://mypyramid.gov/guidelines/index.html)? healthy fats abound in soy and nuts, as well as the oils with which my meals were cooked. i’m pretty sure i didn’t tell you the ratios of the things i ate, either, so launching off onto some diatribe about how my ratios are “imbalanced” just makes you sound like a capital P-r-i-c-k.

to suggest that i’d be better off eating junk food instead of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, even if i consumed very little healthy fat, is just ludicrous. that makes NO sense whatsoever. please, please try to defend that rationale.

and wth are you advocating, atkins? you’re insane, as no sane nutritionist will actually recommend this diet. good job perpetuating absurd miconceptions about vegetarianism and permissible amounts of carbohydrates from vegetables when you have no clue about the topic you’re speaking of.

trust that my skin is clear and supple, my eyes radiant, my hair thick and shiny, my body lean and muscular, and my energy levels fantastic when i’m eating the way i did at home, more so than yours ever will be.

Really not sure why my post deserved your CRAZY and PSYCHOTIC response. Do you have an eating disorder? Your relationship with food seems to be too close and personal if you get this worked up ON AN INTERNET FORUM.

Laughable. Cite your sources, please.

You never stated nuts or oils in your previous post.

Do you know what diatribe means? Oh, and I never used the word “imbalanced” in my post – please learn to read. Thanks.

In America, there’s this thing people use called “sarcasm.” Quite effective (see: Exhibit A).

you’re right, when i can get back home and eat a proper diet, i will lose weight again.

ad hominems just make me feel better because there are only so many times i cannot become frustrated after dealing with yet another self-righteous punk who thinks they just KNOW that vegans must be unhealthy because they eat lots of things that typical, obese americans do not. for that i am entirely unapologetic and unashamed.

you never said anything about atkins, but harping on this perceived absence of fats and claiming certain veggies have “too many” carbohydrates is characteristic of an atkins adherent. i do have a close relationship with food, because i enjoy it immensely. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, as many people actually devote their entire LIVES to their passions for food. do famous chefs all have eating disorders? also, i had a meal tonight that made me ecstatic after having a semester’s worth of awful ones, so yes, today i do feel very strongly about food.

yes, i do know what diatribe means, and although it may have been a bit too strong of a word for what you actually did, it wasn’t a complete misuse of it. do YOU know what it means?

stop the bs about sarcasm. everyone knows that sarcasm can be difficult to discern on the internet, and especially after you condemned my diet, it was exceptionally difficult to tell whether or not you were actually serious. noting the many other ludicrous things you said in your post, i assumed that you actually meant those equally ludicrous things. how was i to know?

and no, i am by no means mentally unstable. only frustrated. are you mentally unstable for feeling the need to attack a stranger online for what you foolishly believed to be an unhealthy diet after it was described in only half a sentence?

Regardless of our differences, I’m glad there’s someone on this forum who takes living well and eating right as seriously as I do. Goes to show you that there’s more than one way to achieve your goals.

bulimia wastes food. At least don’t eat it to start out with. anorexia!
LOL jk jk. chill out guys. just eat a little bit of everything and there you go. Don’t cut out one thing all together.

Actually, both of you are fools if you think you’ve “solved” nutrition. Nutrition is just like weightlifting: there are a thousand theories, and a few general core guidelines, which even then are turned upside down and have exceptions every so often.

It’s obvious that one of you has just read “a book” on the Vegan diet and one of you has read “a book” on one of the hundreds of low carb diets. Next, one of you will pick up a book on the miracle of organic foods and start ponitificating about that. Heres an idea: eat what works FOR YOU. And neither of you are nutritionalists, actually - not that the field has much consensus anyhow.

And using a diet book you read to support your case is one thing, but please, PLEASE do not bring up the food pyramid! That was discredited as being a government farce years ago. It’s embarassing for all of us.

The only thing that determines how 'thick your thighs are and how large your ass is, ladies, is total calories. We’re putting health inside, and focusing on your vanity and thinness here - which is really what most of you are talking about here (oh no I gained weight!) You need to exercise more, or lower total calories consumed. Simple. I solved the mystery of the ages.
