I'd like to Thank all those that contribute to this FORUM. You all are the Best. I learned so much spending hours reading or asking questions. I was briefed with so many resources on how to address the changes, challenges and differences since when I attended in the 80s.

So do you want to know how well you did?

Accepted - Bridgewater College Merit/Scholarship$$$$$, Hampden Sydney $$$$$, Creighton $$, U of Richmond $$, Case Western $$$$, U of Minn (don't recall seeing any), Hofstra $$$, Fuurman $$$, Muhlenberg $, Lafayette $, Baylor $$$, Bucknell $$, U of Roc $, Villanova $$$, College of W and M (In-state, full pay, offered unsubsidized).

$$$ = under 10K over W and M COA. $$$$ = under 5K over W and M COA. $$$$$ under College of W and M COA.

Waitlist offers - UVA, Brandeis, Wash and Lee

Denied - PY, Duke, Vandy, Wake (S was upset about this one. He got into the rest from his list or offered waitlist. The others, upset not so much, including waitlist schools). Admittedly, the other 4 were from my justified, makes perfectly good sense to me, "whydontcha" list. Vandy and Duke were on his original list, but once he visited the campuses (twice for each) he just didn't like the split campus thing. Turned off by the overpass at Vandy and for Duke, the idea of as a freshman being separated from the main campus (which he loved) and catching a bus didn't appeal to him. I thought he was being finicky, so possibly those nuances would change if admitted. As for PY, I suppose I got sucked into the hype. All along he expressed he didn't want to attend, but for some reason I thought he was just scared. (I could have come up with any justification to get those apps in.) No matter now, which is Absolutely fine. I am thankful for the "save me from myself turnout".

I have no idea where U of Minn came from when he has all along had the desire to attend smaller school. Early on he said VATech was way too big. He also felt UVA was too large for him (among other things).

Do you wanna have a little fun? Would you like to predict his choice? Here is some background info may help:

He applied to these schools as either a bio/biochem/chem major and Public Health/Policy or Health Administration. He is very intellectual. A very bright student. DEs, APs etc. Nerdy, but he doesn't know it or doesn't think so. Speaks very well. Prefers leading a subgroup as opposed to the entire. He is a behind the scene type. He loves history and is an avid reader. He's the type to go in a bookstore/library and picks up a book, finds a seat and starts reading for hours if you let him. He tends to read every book an author rolls out. Not just series books. Something I noticed is that even if the first book by a particular author wasn't that great to him, he will still want to read their other works, which I find completely curious, boarder line fascinating. Very helpful and community service oriented. Volunteering is an innate part of his nature. He is the first one to volunteer for the less popular jobs and not think twice. Plays video games in spurts. Puts it down if he stumbles across a book that sparks his interest. He enjoys joke books and anime. He is popular and social but not a partier. Would much rather hangout with his friends watching movies, games and going out to eat. He is a sports enthusiast, doesn't need to be in the stands, but will support school events. He is satisfied with the sports page and TV. You name the sport he can tell you stats current and historic. He's plays a couple of instruments in the marching, concert and jazz band.

This may also be helpful in that we told him that our contribution/budget was most expensive public instate COA plus 5K. Anything over, and he was going to need to have a plan, and if less, then we would probably help with grad school. (You know, I got this thing about automatically assisting with postgraduate school, just because you didn't spend the max for undergrad. My analogy is just because I find a pair of shoes on sale for quite a bit less at the outlet mall, doesn't mean I can buy another 5 pairs for myself later on. That money may need to be used for something else, and in our case his younger sibling. This family has one pot. I digress. Good thing I have 4 years to get with the program :-)).

Lastly, and I’m telling on my hubby, but why not… :-) He had his “yourgonna” requirement of applying to 5 in-state schools. Son already had 3.

So, where do you think he chose? It is an absolute PERFECT choice and fit for him!!! The writing was on the wall all along, and especially since he got accepted of course! I’m so Proud and Happy! Insert California Raisin dance mixed with Pee Wee herman dance rrrightttt hhheeere!!!!!
