Congrats, @musicmom1215 !!! Cone head or not, that’s a big little boy! (she says, having a GD who clocked in at 8,5 but not that long.)

@musicmom1215 Congrats! All my girls were bigger than 9 lbs but not one of my grandchildren has hit that mark!

I am super careful when caring for GS, but accidents do happen. D and SIL are always very sweet when there is a little bump or bruise. As he gets older, and we spend more time outside (and on wheels!), I expect there will be even more opportunities for D and SIL to be understanding.
Got to hold him tonight. He is a sweetie!
Yep, they have also been removed from Amazon! My daughter had one on her registry and it dropped off.
My son and DIL have one also. They’ve been on top of this issue, as well as this one regarding the BOB Jogging Stroller:
@BunsenBurner - see post #763
S & DIL used their RocknPlay for several months with GD, and were planning to use it with baby #2 until all the news and ultimately the recall. I’m glad something was finally done about this potential hazard.
I still believe most of this is user error. For a 1-2 or 3 month old, I don’t believe it is a bad product. When you need a place to put a baby down while cooking dinner or going to the bathroom, I think it is fine. My son only used theirs for about 10 weeks and that was my daughter’s plan. Any product needs to be used with care.
@snowball, I am a pediatric nurse and totally agree that many recalls are for injuries caused by misuse. But if we can’t get people to read and follow recommendations, then we have to remove the hazard. It’s a true shame for those who would use the item responsibly.
Dang—it says the rock & play isn’t supposed to be used once the baby can roll over. Ours literally were rolling over in the hospital shortly after birth, so I guess it’s a good thing we never had these!
My S & DIL used it as a bassinet and since my GD was so small, I’m sure she was in it past 3 months. Given what we know now, we’re fortunate nothing bad happened.
Our babies were very active and could climb. They climbed out of their portacrib and later out of their crib from 6 months or so.
We decided it was too dangerous having D in a crib and when we moved when she was 2, gave the crib back to our kind friends who loaned it to us.
Danged if D didn’t spend the 1st 2 weeks in our new home walking around and around looking for her old crib. We lay a futon on the floor for her but she still was searching for HER crib. After that initial period it was all good.
We coslept with DD on a water bed for months - a water bed without baffles and with a wooden frame and lots of pillows and blankets, and we put baby face down to sleep (which was the proscribed method in those days). We are SO lucky that she survived it all. Really!
@musicmom1215 CONGRATULATIONS!!! How wonderful to get to hold that new grandbaby!
I have to say that in order for a baby to truly developmentally “roll over” - be that tummy to front or taking even more effort front to back they need to have neck and back muscles strength that is not present at birth. That doesn’t mean they won’t “fall” from side to tummy or side to back - if you have them on your side - which is not recommended now.
Additionally, it is nearly unheard of that a 6 month old would be able to crawl out of a crib that is properly adjusted on the sides at 6 months. Babies don’t develop good head control until 4-6 months let alone the coordination to climb with arms, legs, feet a 6 months to get out of a crib!
I mean maybe there is a superhuman baby out there and you know your baby best, but in terms of typical developmental milestones these two feats are almost unheard of.
DD/SIL are expecting baby #2 in early July (a boy; grand-daughter will be 14 months old when her brother is born) - the parents were able to buy an identical crib to the one they have, in like new condition from their area listings (same crib as the first one which I found for them at a store we have “once upon a child”) - I had a crib mattress for the first one, and the second crib came with a good mattress. They are moving into a 2 br apt the end of May.
Grand-daughter at 10 1/2 months was walking 5 - 10 steps going from things to hang onto to independent walking, and is doing great with it - also enjoys walking behind the rolling toy with the handle for her. She is eager to absorb everything around her. She finally is trying foods; really resisted anything but the bottle. She has a lot of SIL’s baby characteristics because a lot of grand-dau’s behavior was not exhibited by either DD’s. Both DDs were easy with introduction of foods when Pediatrician recommended.
I found that when GD was standing in port a crib, I warned the parents to lower the middle because her top-heavy head will have her rolling out (which indeed did happen).
The parents did listen when I told them to have a smaller light/night light than leaving a table lamp on in the bedroom (almost shutting the closet door with the closet light on was less bright).
