VH - for some reason, the link does not work on my phone. Will post later! It is just a door with a 2/3 length window in it… Love that idea. Will keep the cats in and bugs out. I will probably contact someone like HomeStory to make it custom. This is our Phase 2 project - replace all heavy old oak doors upstairs. I am tired of the Phase 1 stuff and need a break!
@collage1 - I hear you. We had a project that took the crew two months to finish instead of the promised two weeks. The worst part was that they would disappear and leave the horrid mess for several days, and there was no way to figure out when they would show up again. We could not move into the house while all of this was happening. Yes, the guy was highly recommended and has awesome reviews. He did a fine job, just very slowly. I think they got a hold of a more lucrative project while working on ours, and just penciled us in when there were breaks in the other project, like drywall mud drying.
I am shocked how happy I am with my contractor. This is our third remodel in our 31 year marriage. The first one, shortly after we got married, my husband’s friends all did the work as side-jobs. The second one the contractor was highly regarded and did an excellent job on our neighbors house across the street. But was very, very flaky with us, the job dragged on forever and ultimately he disappeared (we heard he went to jail for drugs) before the final inspections. A year later the city told us we never finished inspections and we had to hire a new electrician to fix all the mess the contractor’s electrician did. Our current contractor seems to sub out most things. Week one we had a demo crew, week two we had framers, week three and four the plumber and electrician worked and now week five we have a drywall crew. So far, he seems to have lined up everyone well.
Drywall started to go up yesterday and we now have a better idea of what things are going to look like. After 5 weeks down to the studs, I kind of miss the openness. We leave for a 10 day vacation on Saturday and I am really looking forward a break from living in a construction zone.
Ours also works for a bunch of RE folks who own rentals. Keeping them happy, handling their
emergencies, results not only in work, but plenty of referrals. We’ve gotten so, if he says he’ll show on X, we know we’ll see him a few days later. Or mid-project, he can leave for other jobs. But he’s also a good $ deal.
Uh oh…

That smoke in the air means higher lumber prices!
Bought my paint, today.
BB, I love offices I knew that had steel internal framing, then padded wallboard attached. Wanna change the config? Get out the power screwdrivers. Well, maybe not quite that simple, but intriguing. What a homeowner could do with that.
Steel framing is used in residential construction in some areas where wood is not a good choice. I like the movable walls idea.
@lookingforward - what color did you end up picking?
I went to Home Depot and got some Behr Chenille White paint for the touch ups at House 1. It matches the color almost exactly! I might not need to do much painting there because magic erasers did a great job removing kitty marks off the corners.
Got a gallon of the C2 Pearl for the first long wall. When that whole is painted, I’ll know for sure. But the longer the last bunch of test areas dry, the more I like it.
I see some sites like Behr so much.
Love your choice and hope it works!
Now I need to pick paint for the siding and trim. Oy. It will be a long project.
For some reason, I keep coming back to this blue:
SO want to do more home repairs and updates. but with 2 in college it’s tight. Limited my big list to a few things; today the tile contractors are supposed to replace my backsplash in the kitchen. going with long shiny subway tiles in a very light grey/taupe color with white grout.
Have a wood guy doing some framing/decorative work on the outside of the kitchen bar and i’ll paint that the same color as the tiles. one step at a time
Mr. B just got his weekend scheduled. A shiny white Aquia one piece toilet is sitting in our bedroom. It is a thing of beauty! I have no idea how the previous owners lived in this house with that crappy toilet for so long. It is the grandfather of low flow toilets, and I now know why those early designs were so much detested. You have to flush that thing 3-4 times!
Our first floor lav had one of those ugly off pink models. DH loved to tell how he discovered the sink exit piping was a car radiator hose. (Makes sense tho, eh?)
I’m going to switch all to a higher seating model. Truly, my analytical side asks, but what about eventual grandkids? Guess they’ll just use a stool.
Oh man… at least ours is white. This toilet that we got with the house is just soooo ugly in addition to being less than functional. It is round, extra wide, and really short. Like someone took a normal toilet and squished it down LOL. The Aquia is skirted and really elegant. I have no idea why the owners kept the beast when they remodeled the bathroom. The other fixtures are modern and nice. It is a ridiculous toilet. Kohler’s epic fail.
I’ll bet the squashed look was at some point considered desirable. Ha.
BB, I like that blue. I used something similar, just a tad dryer, for an accent wall in guest bedroom.
BM M510-2, life at sea
D1’s bf and I are painting first coat, the notorious wall from the front door to the landing . Very nice, I’m happy.
No telling yet how it will look when dry. There are some brush strokes where I previously tested with a cheap brush. Maybe this coat will level some of that out. Or I’ll go lightly over it later, with my handy mouse sander.
Came home thinking “what else will fall apart tonight that would need fixing” and was treated to a wonderful scene: two large seagulls were harassing a bald eagle that was hiding in the branches of the large Douglas fir in the front yard. Got my bird watch fix!
The lighted mirror that was backordered for ages arrived, finally! And I have makeshift drapes, too, until the nice ones come in a few weeks. The house is going to look like a home, slowly but surely.
Btw, BB, did you see the article about the bats that live in the rafters of Swedish churches?Declining in some, but not all, of the churches studied. The researcher(s) realized the common denominator is these had been lit in the intervening years. Partly that the bats didn’t want light, partly that it allowed predators to find them.
Keep your bathouse in the dark. :))
I think I will try this paint combo! Let’s see if the link works:
