The title is self-explanatory. I just got my Dec scores back and I went down 110 points. Needless to say, I am not that happy right now . If you ever went down 100 points or more from one SAT to the other, this is the club for you.

Here is my regression:

OCT SAT Math: 710
DEC SAT Math: 680
Change: -30

OCT SAT CR: 640
DEC SAT CR: 610
Change: -30

OCT SAT Writing: 680
DEC SAT Writing: 630
Change: -50 (Ouch!!!)

well, i can't even get higher than a stupid 590 in math if that makes you feel better, and math was the only reason i retook it in december...makes me so mad, but i did get 730s on the other two sections

A 30 point drop is not a statistically significant difference. The only one that really "dropped" is the writing score.

You may be seeing what is known as "regression towards the mean,' a phenomenon where an above-average performance is followed by a performance slightly closer to the average.

This is why the scores are reported with a range.

My scores were like 100 below what I expected...
I expect my scores to be around 2000 but I ended up with 1890... Somehow writing i got 560... <-- expected to be 650+ based on practice test I did..

What I did was make the stupid mistake of retaking the SAT for a 3rd time. 1st time = 1940. 2nd time = 2030. The second time score was a pretty good jump in my opinion and I was satisfied with it. However, I got greedy and figured "let me try and bump it up to 2100." This theory had disastrous results as you can see.

I know that a 30 point drop isn't that much for Math and CR. The Writing is what schocked me. I was expecting a slight decrease in the overall score, but a jump in Writing. I was aiming for 700+ in that section because I came pretty close with a 680 last time. I thought that I cruised through the multiple choice this time. When I saw the MC score of 64, I was stunned. An 8 on the essay didn't exactly help my cause either.

Let my story be a lesson to not be greedy. If you want to boost your score by a great deal, then go for it. However, if you are only searching for a few extra points, it is probably not worth your time, money or aggravation.

The people who have posted on this board have either ngone down too much overall or just had a decrease in one section.

lol its cause most people here only post to brag [those uber cool 2300s] =) but heres mine: my writing in oct 670 writing in dec 550. thats more than 100 off. hopefully they're not lying when they say they look at the highest 0_0
