Well I am relying on CC to get me into college, I don't think it's worth the extra cash to go for this counselling service. What more can the admissions people tell you that you won't find on CC after a bit of deep digging?

UIUC is what my unofficial counselor recommended :( And she probably knows quite a bit if her student got into MIT this year.... I'm so confused now.
@ Prateek- You're forgetting I'm Lucknow. I doubt my teachers know anything about the British Council or even MIT or Caltech :P
I can write plays though. One of my plays was enacted at school this year and everyone liked it :P But only school level sigh

I just want to go to a school with a good econ, math and english program which will help me to get into a good grad school for furthur studies in either of the three. But I don't want to go to a school which is a "factory" of sorts of future MBA students.

UIUC is not bad per se but i know ppl studying there...all from my school....who apparently are very unhappy there
so i know it doesn't wrk for me....
however it was my safety.....

Don't trust counselors much, nobody can "get you into" MIT. To get the feel of the college, talk to the current students, they have the BEST opinions. There are plenty here on CC and if you know how to approach them, politely and all, they will help you!

Yes, an LAC is definitely worth the pay for you cheese. (That was you, wasn't it?) The education you want, in those subjects, are what the LACs are made for!

@gary: Come on, don't tell me people at CMS don't know about national magazines and stuff where you can submit your poetry. It's one of the best schools in the country!

CMS- One of the best? Really?? Its surprising coz we neither have any clubs for ECs, nor elected student councils, even our lab apparatus sucks...
Anyways, I'll talk to my teachers once school reopens. There are a few contests from time to time, but they are 99% localchaap!
Not that our English coordinator is bad :)
Also note that CMS is a chain of 22 big and small branches. There are some like Gomti Nagar and LDA which are nothing short of international schools, and there are lesser mortals like our Aliganj branch with hardly any funding etc. in comparision... Every year a few students from CMS go to the US, but from out branch, in the past few years only 1 guy went out as far as I know, that too only to Singapore through SIA-NOL scholarship for class 11,12.

Oh, so that is the case. I have been to CMS, Kanpur Road! It was awesome!

Isn't your motto "Jai Jagat" ? Correct me if I am wrong! I have amazing memories of that place, especially the "gaajar ka halwa" they made for desert every night!

Yeah, pretty right :D
What competition did you come for? And the LDA I mentioned means Kanpur Road. Its the biggest branch I guess. But its too far away from my home so I joined Aliganj. Though Aliganj is supposed to be a minnow in comparision and Gomti Nagar or LDA have at least 3-4 times the no. of students, last year when I gave Xth Aliganj managed to take up 6-7 spots on the inter branch top 10 merit list in all the preparatory and final exams :P
I was obviously never too sincere about bookish studies and so didn't manage to get onto the list. In the boards I think some 834 students from CMS got 90%+
LDA branch has all sorts of cool things....audi and great labs.....what not.
I've studied there for about a month when we were sent for that INMO TC. Some of the most memorable days of my school life! And we managed to get itno trouble almost every alternate day :P Its pretty easy to bunk classes in a branch as big as that :D
