Undecided here too.
BTW what is ETS?

@Quasi: Do we know each other? :)

Workload? Hmmmm Thats one thing I’m not worried about-It can only get better from here.
Btw ETS=Educational Training Service or something like that. Basically the old foogies who write our stupid standardized tests like SAT.

Educational Testing Service. There’s that one SAT prep book that pokes a lot of fun at the ETS monster - can’t remember the name of the book. Whatever.

My mom made me clean out all my books today. I had to let her take half of them. My room is no longer in a landslide-esque condition - it’s quite heartbreaking. But I did find a copy of No Exit after days of searching, so yay for that! What’s the one thing you guys would HATE to have to get rid of?

adrivit, nah, I’m pretty sure we don’t. Which school did you go to?

Can any of you science people recommend a bio book to study for the SAT II? And is anyone doing Lit or USH? (I’m asking without hope as far as the second question goes).

(Wow. Long thread.)

I was planning to use bio for Barron’s before I decided against taking it.

Well well, if it isn’t the return of Mr. Dook ;)

I’d hate to get rid of my guitar :). Not that my mom would ever make me, but just thought I’d throw it in there. Me = music buff!

Ooh you play the guitar! So does my best friend. She’s decided to take it upon herself to teach me bio. She’ll probably regret it before December, though :D

hey srry to interrupt u all but does Purdue offer aid to internationals… :0

@rt: Nope.

I am still in search for my safety colleges(if they are any…)
Hey are they any “good” colleges that offer plenty of aid to internationals :)

Did any of you '13ers ask for fee waivers and still get in?

University of Richmond seems to be pretty international friendly. They also give a lot of aid.

@Quasi- I didn’t myself- but I think shubham15, adrivit and spidey from these forums did. And they’re going to Tufts, Dook and Colgate respectively. So yeah- I don’t really think whether or not you take fee waivers matters.

@rt: I’d suggest you ask spideyunlimited about that! He did apply to quite a few “good” colleges that offer FA. :)

thanks 100%tuna
I was thinking of applying to purdue but then FinAid…
Also, how many Indians got in Yale this year? (Please list those who have got in with full aid)

Yup- well- Purdue and Michigan are pretty easy to get into (considering they have like 80 and 50ish percent acceptances)- but are really good too (but UCLA’s better- HAHA! shamelessly promoting my college here- and y’all should DEFINITELY apply and make the acceptance rate lower lower than it already is!!) Haha!! JK! So IF you can afford 'em- definitely apply to them as fallbacks. :)

About Yale- no idea, really.
I know confused_vnese from Singapore (scholar from Vietnam) is going to Yale- pretty awesome FA package too, I think. So get in touch with her! :)

8 Indians go into Yale this year.Around 800 applied. 7 with pretty awaesome FA. A guy from my school got into Yale, he told me. Also, 5 of those accepted into Yale are musicians of some sort. Yale loves those who love their music.

Thnx bigcheese
do u know more about them?

Yale looks for someone unique. If you have a talent or an interest that separates you from the rest of us Indians, then you have a really good shot. Academics are important but at that level, everyone evens out. A SAT score of 2100+ is enough. Interviews are important. The guy from my school had to go to Mumbai to give his interview, Yale paid for his ticket but he had to pay for staying there for one night. Use your essay to highlight your passions. If you can get a letter of recommendation from someone outside your school, (like a coach if you play some sport or from the head of the office where you interned) it will also be helpful.
Beyond this, pray to God that fewer people apply and everyone has a bad SAT score and a horrible essay ;).

Also rt, look at UPenn, I think that they have some agreement with our school. Every year atleast 1 person goes to penn from my school.

How many ivies is everybody applying to?

I applying only to Dartmouth.

Well I’ll be applying to 2-4 ivies.

3 for me - Brown, Dartmouth and Yale.

Well, I’m passionate about the stuff I do (and I only play music casually - not gonna list it on the app :)) and I have a pretty off-beat essay. Just gonna keep my fingers crossed now!
