Irene, Admissions told my son when making the offer that very very few kids were coming off the waiting list this year. But very few is not zero. Who knows how they do this? Hopefully, as other more selective schools go to their WL, and a kid waiting for Princeton pulls out of Hamilton, something may open up for you as well. Remember, its not about counting on the WL, but until someone official tells you there will be no more admissions from the WL, it could still happen. If you have done everything you could, then all you can do is wait, and make sure you are not neglecting whatever options you do have in front of you right now. What will be will be…and you could be just as lucky as we were.

bristolstomp,
that’s very kind and thoughtful of you to comfort me. and now i will do exactly what you have told me.
i will be hopeful, and i hope i can be your S’s classmate:)

Bristolstomp, No point in going nuts about a school. There are so many good ones out there. S was accepted at Colgate and Hamilton for 2013. Colgate was his first choice but he eventually declined both because FA was not enough. We could have tighten the belt and make it happen but he chose not to and decided for a better FA in the Midwest. Anyway, his place most probably will go to the waitlist for both schools. Hope your S is called.

It’s been awhile since I looked at this thread, but that makes me so happy to see that your son got off the waitlist, bristolstomp. I love happy waitlist stories and now, your son and I might be friends next year.

i know what you mean, bestwhit. I even was happy for a few kids/parents who got off the waitlist of a school that rejected my son. And he is so very happy to be going to Hamilton, it made all the agonizing worth it. Its not that there aren’t a lot of good schools out there, its that after visiting Hamilton, it seemed he had really found the place, and it meant that the other rejection meant almost nothing to him (which happened to be my alma mater, an Ivy.) I am so glad it worked out as it did.

i just talked to hamilton admissions and they said that so far they’ve offered the waitlist to less than 10 students and that they’re not offering it to anymore (barring any dramatic shift in enrollment). they’ll know definitely within the next week or so, but until then, consider it a no :(

my friend got off the waitlist about a week ago! she was informed that 6 people have been taken off and the waitlist is now closed.
