D got waitlisted, and its bittersweet. What are the do's and don'ts? Anything specific about Hamilton regarding their waitlist? Is it better just to move on? She really likes this school.
Thanks.

Hamilton waitlist stats of the last few years here:

Hey! I’m a current student at Hamilton and while I personally wasn’t waitlisted when I applied, I’m sure that if your daughter sent them a nice, well-written letter about how much she’d love to go to Hamilton if accepted, it would probably help in her favor. If this really is her top choice, she should let them know that she’d attend if accepted. I know that sending a letter displaying interest generally is in students’ favors when trying to get in off the waitlist. Good luck!

Are students accepted off the waitlist before May 1, 2010?

No, the committee meets to review the waitlist AFTER they know how many students will enroll out of the initial acceptances.

don’t forget, you still will have Hamilton enrollees that will decline Hamilton and take another college upon being taken off the other college’s waiting list

it is a musical chair balancing act for these colleges that takes well into June.

Limbo land until after May 1st, then.

I was waitlisted from regular decision and sent a personal letter to the director of admissions in may of my senior year, and got a call during school in June asking me if I would attend if I was offered admission. I obviously said yes and I am very glad I did. It is very possible to be accepted off of the waitlist, but you must show the school that you are very interested in coming. If you have made it to the waitlist, that means the admissions office is confident that you would fit well at Hamilton, they just don’t have a spot for you at the moment. Make them want to give you one of the select waitlist spots by accentuating what you can bring to campus and by showing that Hamilton is your top choice. Be creative.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

I should add that if you require financial aid, you will be less likely to be accepted from the waitlist. By the time the waitlist is tapped into, the school has used all of its financial aid money and is looking for students to add to the class who can pay full tuition. This may not apply in all cases, but everyone I know who was accepted off of the waitlist was able to pay full tuition and it is certainly something that influences their decision.

Thanks everyone! My daughter will not be accepting a spot on the waitlist. We are moving on, she already chose a college that she likes and is happy with her decision!

Thanks, spygate. My daughter has already mailed a letter to both the Director and Dean of Admissions. She is also waitlisted at Bowdoin. She has actually kept up the correspondence on a weekly basis. Either a handwritten note, or an e-mail as well. When in June did they contact you? We are not asking for any financial aid. While she wrote to Bowdoin too – Hamilton is her top choice. She made it clear she would attend if they selected her. If not, it’s either Skidmore or Conn College. She has def decided against Frankin and Marshall and Muhlenberg. Good luck to us all!

spygate, I might not agree with you on the waitlist not being needblind this year:

Does anybody have any statistics regarding Hamilton’s waitlist?
How many students were placed on the waitlist?
How many students have been accepted from the waitlists in previous years?

did you even read this thread? there is a link on this page that answers all of those questions…

Oh, sorry. Haha.
I read it when I wrote Post #4, but I wrote Post #13 in a state of panic over this whole waitlist business. :/

Daughter accepted off waitlist a few days before May 1st. April 28th to be exact.

oh Wow Congratulations! Your daughter must be thrilled.

Does anyone know about how many people Hamilton plans to admit from the waitlist this year? or how many people enrolled in the class of 2014? … I’m still hoping there’s a chance I will get off of it.

Having contacted the admissions office, I received a response email as followed:

"At this point, it doesn’t look like we will be in a position to offer any spots to people on our wait list, especially students needing financial aid. All of our financial aid has been spent on our deposited students, so if financial aid is important in your thinking process, then you probably should turn your attention to other schools.

Best of luck to you."

Sorry for most of the waitlisted applicants, especially those who were seeking financial aid… :(

So, as opposed to what the Hamilton financial aid office said recently, it is NOT need blind for its waitlist - same as in previous years.
