The Keys to the Kingdom

Thanks for the great job.
I have a student hesitating between Philosophy with a Politics minor, and Politics with a Philosophy minor. Did I read your chart correctly that the first option would be easier (it’s also the one he prefers).

@MYOS1634‌, Minors don’t figure into admission. For this entering class it was predicted that they’d admit a higher percentage of Philosophy majors vs. Poly Sci.

@eyemgh hey, I know you’re extremely knowledgeable about the freshman acceptance process, how much do you know about the transfer process? I know it has to be pretty different because we don’t have test scores to report and instead only have GPA and class selection. Can you tell me anything about the system that selects transfer students? Also, do you have any specific info for psych majors?

@sb1993, sorry, I’m pretty much in the dark about the transfer process. Good luck.

well fuck

hahaha ^^^!! Who knew you weren’t allowed to use profanity?

Do you think there will be more ME being releases

Hello, my friend (female) applied for computer engineering at CPSLO but still hasn’t heard back. She got a perfect 800/800 on her math SAT and got a 35/36 on her math ACT; her composite ACT score was 34. She has taken 4 years of an art and has taken over 8 semesters of AP/honors courses and her CSU GPA is a 4.2. So, any reason as to why she hasn’t heard back yet? Is it because CPSLO hasn’t released computer engineering for instate applicants yet? (we are instate). Or have they just not released many? Or…? Thank you~

I think it’s either because she missed something on her application or they haven’t released all the CE acceptances yet.

Okay thank you @eyemgh

@Reef2Reefuser‌ If you take algebra 1 in eighth grade make sure to note it in your app and/or double up on math

We toured Cal Poly earlier this week. During the admissions presentation, I was surprised to hear that they only use the English and Math portions of the ACT. I followed up with a direct question to the rep at the end of the presentation, and he confirmed. I knew that they used English and Math from the SAT (no writing), but they apparently use a partial ACT too. I have seen this posted in a few other places on the net, but wanted to post here, to see if others could confirm. He also indicated that they superscore the ACT, in addition to the SAT.

@ocgolfdad, that is correct. The thing you might want to clarify is that they might even superscore across test platforms. By that I mean they might take a great ACT section and pair it with a great SAT section. I remember reading that they did that, but it may have come to me in a dream. Call and verify.

@eyemgh , thanks for the reply. I also wonder if when publishing admissions profiles, is CP reporting composite ACT scores or just Math/English averages? In their little credit card sized foldout, it implies that the reported ACT is a composite score. For instance, in engineering last year, the average was 32.

@ocgolfdad, I’m not sure. I’m guessing that it’s the average of just the two sections, but you’d have to call to be sure.

FYI to anyone reading. I called and verified this. YES if your ACTMATH is better than your SAT MATH it could get paired with your SAT READING… Nice!
