Like many freshmen, I do not live near Vanderbilt, and I am planning to take a flight to Vanderbilt. Obviously, I can't fit and therefore bring all my "stuff" down to school with me. Is there a way I can use some sort of outside shipping or other ways that Vanderbilt might possibly have to help move all my luggage?

I would suggest shipping all non-essential items a day before you move in so that they arrive a day or two after you arrive.

If I remember from last year, I think Vandy has a way you can ship things to a certain address on campus and they hold the items for you. It may even be that the Move Crew will take them to your dorm, too. This information will probably be included with your move-in instructions. I would call Housing and ask them if you want to know before you receive the Housing packet. Good luck!

Are you flying alone or with your parents? If you are going with your family I would suggest renting a car and then purchasing dorm necessities at target or walmart when you get there, it is a lot easier that way (although both stores are a freaking madhouse the first weekend). I'd also suggest renting a storage unit with a few friends at the end of the year so you dont have to ship things back home. It's very convinient and resonable when split between several people.

we shipped a number of boxes with everything from bedding, to a tv, to all types of dorm supplies etc. When we arrived, my S picked up package delivery notices from his mailbox at Vandy and brought them to a package location to pick them all up. We shipped UPS and everything arrived on time. One package was missing at first but my husband and son found it after a search--
