The Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence

I just received this e-mail:
Congratulations new Longhorn!

Welcome to The University of Texas at Austin for the Fall 2009 semester! The University will be a great place for you to continue your formal education because of its outstanding faculty and staff, modern facilities, tremendous resources, and competitive student body.

We are very excited to offer you the opportunity to become part of The Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence. The Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence is an academic center that houses several support programs designed to assist you in your college journey. By applying to the Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence you will be placed into one of two programs through our center. These programs are the Gateway Scholars Program and the Longhorn Link Program.

The Gateway Scholars Program is a selective program for incoming college students with strong profiles for success. The Gateway Scholars Program aims to ensure that promising students meet their academic goals and have a wonderful experience at UT. Gateway Scholars limited enrollment allows for a mix of small and large classes so you will not be lost in the crowd. To complement these classes, the Gateway Scholars Program also offers professional academic advising, collaborative learning opportunities, counseling, registration assistance, and free tutoring, as well as fun social, cultural, and recreational activities.

The highlight of the Gateway Scholars Program is the Seminar in Critical Thinking, which helps students get to know each other and acclimate to academic life at UT. To learn more about this program, please visit our website at Division of Diversity and Community Engagement - Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence - Gateway Scholars.

The Longhorn Link Program is a federally funded TRIO program that provides you with individualized assistance throughout your college career that contributes to your academic achievement, enabling you to accomplish your educational and career goals.

During your first year in the program, students are introduced to life and learning at the University through our First Year Student experience (FYS) programming. After your FYS experience, you will continue to receive services provided through our Continuing Student Initiative (CSI) programming.
