Hey!
Chance me please!
Hi,
I'm applying regular decision to Cornell to the College of Arts and Sciences
Here are some stats:
Indian Male
SAT's
Critical Reading : 670
Math : 690
Writing : 750
Overall - 1360/1600 and 2110/2400
Weighted GPA: 4.25 or 4.3
Class Rank : Top 5%
I am on the executive board of the Student Government, have attended Pennsylvania Governor's School of International Studies (a very competetive program by which I spent 5 weeks at the University of Pittsburgh studying International Affairs at the college level, only 1/8 applicants got in). I am enrolled in an internship for international studies, tutor African Refugees,
taught poverty stricken children in India(for 1 week, came to about 50 hrs)
have protested against poaching with the same organization, have 48 hours of service at a library, was the founder of a school band in India, played guitar for a local band and we got pretty popular regionally, am in Model UN, French Club, Drama Club, Poetry Club, actor in school plays, am on the Highest Honor Roll, am in National Honors Society, and on the Varsity Swim Team and have started the Political Awareness League at my school
My hobbies include horseriding, snowboarding, guitar, piano etc
I have studied abroad in high school (India)
Some hobbies include snowboarding, horseriding, piano, guitar, art
The thing I feel that could hurt me is I took all my AP's in my senior year, so I dont have any AP scores yet, but I will have that explained, because I studied abroad, when I came to America, I had to take certain required classes before I could take AP, so I couldnt take AP's before this. Also, currently, I have A's in all my AP's, and I plan on getting that explained with a letter from counsellor. My recs should be good considering I see my counsellor like every day and I am the only person in my school applying to Cornell.
Also, by the time I admit my regular application, I will have most likely started a program by which students from the distrcit are shown movies about animal cruelty, and then we wrtie letters to major fur and leather manufacturers in the region, volunteer at animal shelters for volunteer hours and also hopefully rally a protest (maybe).

bump bump bump bump bump

My assessment is that you're about 1 out of 3...SAT's slightly below mid-point for SAT's for those who attend, and a bit lower yet compared to those admitted; EC's okay but not strong; and class rank about average (depends on quality of your school, Cornell's experience with it, etc.) Best wishes to you.

Does it matter? If redcrimblue tells you that you have a 1/3 chance and I come on here and say you have a 1/4 chance and gomestar comes and says you have a 1/2 chance, will that even affect your decision to apply?

For the last time (this goes to everyone, not just the OP): if you have a 3.7+ UW GPA, a 2000+ SAT score, and a laundry list of EC's, you have some sort of chance. Every single one of you post the same old stats and EC's over and over and over again asking for your chances. These chances threads always receive the same old responses and people still keep posting them! Sometimes multiple times within a week!

Norcalguy, you're right and it seems to me that anyone can figure this out (as you say, and what does it matter what anyone else says...) but for whatever reason they like to hear it...
