The Mathematical and Computational Science Major

Can someone tell me what kind of major this and what kind of fields it is useful for going in to. Why would someone take the Mathematical and Computational Science Major as opposed to the Computer Science major? How are job opportunities different from those of the CS major?

Thanks

I am also thinking about this major. From what I have heard, it seems like more of an applied math route, instead of purely computers. I think since its interdisciplinary, you can choose how many computer classes you take beyond the requirement to regulate your focus in the program.

I am considering this also. I agree with calikent - it's essentially an applied math major. The requires are essentially Math, Statistics, Computer Science, and Management Science and Engineering. You also choose an emphasis on a field that uses applied math (such as Econ).

I am planning on Econ, but I would consider Math CompSci over Computer Sci b/c I wouldn't want to take that many CS classes (I don't like the Physics requirement either).

As far as job opportunities, I think there's a wide range of stuff it talks about on the major's web site. Not sure how they vary from CS majors though.

Anyone have any idea how job opportunities are different between M&CS majors and CS majors?
