The Missouri Conflict; Parents How Would You Advise Your Football Player Student?

The frightening thing is that I think she may have been. It was stunning to me to watch the student Tim Tai calmly attempt to educate this professor on the First Amendment. There was sort of a resigned disbelief in his tone of voice.

I don’t believe that there was much to be left out of news reports, as the conduct of Click and Basler was clear. I’ve been reading the St. Louis Dispatch as well as national news outlets to try to get as broad a perspective as possible.

JustOneDad, I agree with you. Like most apologies shared that are broadcast or published these days, that of Click and Basler were self-serving. I sent polite and sincere email messages to both asking them to resign from their respective jobs at the Communications Department and the Greek Life Department. My motivation for the email messages in part came after I read the comments a News Photographer and Mizzou alum who works for a press agency in Europe Photographer Jim Lo Scalzo’s thoughts were posted in the Washington Post:

"Click’s apology is as misguided as her outburst. “I regret the language and strategies I used…” Subtext: I should have been more polite when I booted the photojournalist. How about admitting that the goal of her actions was wrong? Click’s says she wants to offer a “context” for her actions, but none is necessary. There is no legal or ethical basis for her hyperventilating—or for her putting a hand on that journalist. I am embarrassed for my alma mater, and hope she is removed. Pronto."

Lo Scalzo nailed it. And student reporter Tim Tai deserved commendation as well. Yes, it’s unfortunate that he “became the story” as he himself said, but it was the excesses of the bullies at the encampment that caused the problem. Click, Basler and the “tough guys (of both genders)” in crowd would have been quite comfortable at Tianamen Square…suppressing the students! Oh the irony!

I recognize that tone. It’s what you get when you realize you are talking to people for whom rational arguments mean nearly nothing.

Sorry about the poor grammar. Needed punctuation “press agency in Europe. Photographer Jim Lo Scalzo’s…”
and “…in THE crowd…”

@LakeWashington to get to the edit command, mouse around near the top right of the post, directly to the right of the date/time stamp and just under the post #. Looks like a little gear. You get 15 minutes.

This morning I can say it looks like there will be another tipping point today/soon as they were a lot of social media threats made last night and it was a very chaotic with everybody not sure what was rumor and what was true. Concerned Student 1950 felt that the university did not handle the threats well because issued an alert saying there was no immediate threat and the campus is still open today. Many people are angry so I’m wondering if something else will happen today–maybe additional demands or something about how the university handles threats. MUPD investigated and did apprehend a suspect, but many feel that they weren’t kept in the loop and that more should’ve been done. I think the

They did pack up the campsite yesterday, but they said they are not finished fighting.

Seems like headlines switched over to the GOP debate last night and reporters are starting to leave so CS1950 is losing their voice, so to speak, a little bit now.

Thank you for your updates, CE527M.

Regarding any mental midgets who toss around threats to harm people, they should certainly be exposed and outed by name, if possible.

They’ve identified the alleged hate crime perp, a 19 year old non-student:

It sounds odd to say it, but it would be better if some substantive proof of the flashpoint occurrences (the epithets from the pickup truck and the feces swastika) comes to light at some point. At this point the trigger events are an unsubstantiated and unprovable claim from the student government leader and a disgusting symbol that, in this day and age, no one took a photo of? I don’t doubt there have been issues that need to be addressed, but if neither of these most recent events turn out to be factual it’s going to hurt the overall dialogue that should be taking place regarding race relations.

It’s the same detrimental effect that the 100% false claims of harassment for “walking while black” made by the UNTx professor have. Reasonable people want to have reasonable discussions and come up with reasonable solutions, but every time someone claims racism when it’s patently false it’s going to set back the whole process.

Wolfe may very well turn out to be the smartest person in this whole scenario. Getting away from this rapidly growing dumpster fire could very well be the winning move. :-??

Maybe she used to be a police officer. That would explain everything

@Wolverine86 - People have already starting to ask if much of this issue is a hoax.

http://thefederalist.com/2015/11/10/was-the-poop-swastika-incident-at-mizzou-a-giant-hoax/

"Something stinks at the University of Missouri. A reported incident of vandalism at Mizzou sparked university-wide protests, a boycott by the school’s 4-5 football team, and eventually the resignation of the university’s president and chancellor.

There’s only one problem: no evidence of the alleged incident, in which a poop swastika on the wall of a dormitory restroom was reported, has ever been made publicly available. Did this incident occur as reported, or was it an immaculate defecation that formed the foundation of an unimaginable deception?"

Black lives matter. Whenever there are claims of racism by blacks on this forum it seems as if the posters always try and cast doubts on those claims and somehow marginalize them. However when there are claims of racism by other minorities we can go on for pages about even the most trivial of conduct. Black lives matter

Like I said…reasonable people.

Using feces as your media does suggest a possible mental health issue. That, or they were really, really drunk.

Here’s the problem:

  1. Offensive incident is reported.
  2. Big, angry response to incident occurs.
  3. Evidence comes out casting doubt on the incident.
  4. Responders say that they were angry about a lot of things, not just that one incident.

This is a PR problem. On the one hand, an outrageous incident is good for mobilizing people to protest against a whole set of festering issues. On the other hand, if that incident turns out not to be real, the moral high ground is lost, and it allows people (as we always see) to question the existence of any issues at all.

Clearly there is a problem at the Mizzou campus whose genesis occurred before the reports of the Nazi symbol and and the reports of the MSA president’s story. Let’s not forget the controversy involving a Mizzou black basketball player and Elson Floyd, whom was also black and president of the UM system at the time. Apparently Mizzou has been a mess for years. Just because there are no pictures of the alleged racial harassment at Mizzou doesn’t mean that such intimidation doesn’t exist.

I think the question is who bears the burden of proof. We have certainly seen reports on at least a couple different campuses of “hate crimes” that turned out to be hoaxes. Given that history, of nothing else, I don’t think it is wrong to ask why an incident this inflammatory that was subject to police investigation hasn’t generated any images in the public domain.

The identity of the person who posted threats to shoot black students at Mizzou has been revealed. The guy himself is a student at Missouri Science & Technology University. Talk about bad publicity!

“Using feces as your media does suggest a possible mental health issue. That, or they were really, really drunk.”

if it even happened…apparently no proof exists so this could be like the duke lacrosse as far as we know and if it did happen that could easily be tested for DNA. so if it was more than a rumor and dna exists . (of course suspect numero uno is always the person who reported it…did anyone actually report it?? or flyers just started to get posted about it on campus?? ) but as far as we know right now nobody actually saw it. so weird…like many of these things the light of day exposes the truth.

When it comes to blacks the proof is never enough. There is always something missing This is like the way some groups would go on and on about the presidents birth certificate. Black lives matter. Maybe some of the posters would be better off to ask for proof of Carsons tall tales. That would be a better use of everyones time
