The MIT Campus!

hey! that lil piece of trivia will keep some of my friends' mouths shut about how they heard MIT campus was ugly...

"You are going to MIT? coool! isn't the campus really ugly?"

"the auditorium is 1/8 of a sphere"

"fine... wtv"

spherical shell!

surface area of sphere?

4(pi)r^2 ....

How's the food at MIT(I know we can never be satisfied etc etc ...)?? Can we cook on our own?? And generally, what's the distance between the board and first seat in a class??

Some dorms have dining halls, and others have kitchens for students to use. Since you get to pick your residence, if you are interested in cooking for yourself, you can choose a dorm with kitchens. (I cooked for myself most of the time I was in college, and I'm really glad I did, although I certainly did not start out as a very good cook.)

The food in the dining halls is fine, but it wasn't what I wanted to be eating every night. For lunch, there are a lot of good lunch places on campus, so that works out well.

MIT has a dining plan that's different from many other schools; instead of paying for a certain number of meals per week, students/parents put money into an account linked to the student's ID card (Tech Cash), and money is debited from the card to pay for food.

In a lecture hall, I'd say the distance is around 10 feet. [Judge for[/url</a>] yourself[/url</a>]. In the many more smaller classrooms designated for smaller classes or recitation sections of larger classes, the distance maybe decreases to 5 feet? Actually, you could make that distance 0 feet, given you usually get movable desks (classier than the ones you see in high school though!) in those rooms.

Then, of course, there are the rooms where no seats can be classified as "first" and distance to the boards is completely</a> variable](<a href="http://www.corporateacoustics.com/imageATB.JPG%5DJudge%5B/url">http://www.corporateacoustics.com/imageATB.JPG). ;)

OK! So, that's grt! And what about the distance??
And is there one dorm better than other thing, or is it just about subjective preference? Is their competition?

Gosh!! Is their competition for the first seat??? Thanks for the pics! (I still maybe have to use binoculars ....)

What's a recitation? And ... does Walter Lewin teach??

What a recitation is. And don't quote me on it, but I don't believe Walter Lewin teaches in the traditional sense anymore.

There also isn't that much competition for front seats, from what I've seen, given you get a good enough view of what's going on from any seats in the first few rows.

And don't mind the "their" .....

And is there any study abroad stuff at MIT??

I recommend the "MIT Google" search bar on the mit.edu website.

Search Results: study abroad

Thanks!!!!

Do we have to take the basic level courses, or can they be skipped??

adrivit, do you not know how to use a search engine?

Yes I certainly do. Why such a blasting question??

because the answers to all your questions are readily available online.

Ofcourse they are ... but I prefer interacting with people a tad more doing a dull search ... am I wasting people's time here??? Sorry then!

Everyone is just telling you that you're asking really common, general questions about MIT that are answered elsewhere. Nobody likes answering them because they've been asked a bunch of times before. It's also kind of irritating that about half the posts in this thread are yours. This is otherwise known as spamming.
