Was it a last minute purchase? That might explain the lack of hemming. I think the shirt dress is dark enough to not look bridal.
Iām steering clear of anything very light colored in any caseāthose types of things āwash me out.ā. I like more vibrant colorsāemerald green, royal blue, etc.
The thing about the JJās dresses is I havenāt found one that can be dry cleaned or hand washed.
This wedding will be in August, and it will be hot, which means I will be sweating. I donāt want to buy a dress just to have it incorporate all of those stains and not be able to wash or dry clean it.
Thanks @Jolynne_Smyth ! No idea what what the happy couple will want us to wear yet, so iām holding off making any orders or choices. Itās fun to think and dream when thereās no pressure at this time.
Count me as someone who prefers garments than can be launderedāhand washed or better yet machine washed. Dry-cleaned at the very least.
I may get a simpler knee length dress and a stunning bespoke jacket to go with it. I may get more use out of both garments that way. We have a designer on our island who makes lovely custom one-of-a-kind garments.
That could work nicely. Our son is getting married in June, near Boston. The ceremony and formal-ish catered tent reception will all be outdoors, so Iām thinking a dress with jacket could help me with weather variations. There will be a bus taking guests from hotel to the nature preserve venue, so methinks others might do same.
If MOB picks short dress (likely since the kids think lawns might make long dress awkward). I may order/try this Dillards dress in āpewter frostā. Or maybe same style found in light blue elsewhere. Bridesmaids were instructed to pick lavender/lilac dress, knee length of longer. MOB color is I think still TBD.
Maybe too sparkly?
My Alex Evenings gown is machine washable. And I really love it. But WTH am I going to do with it?
I prefer less bling and despise leaving a trail of sequins of beads because some come loose from a garment I am wearing. Iām also a bit ambivalent about lace because Iāve seen it often in frumpily dressed people. Though I admit lace looked great in the dress we bought D to attend some weddings.
Chiffon and sheers remind me of my mom, as she normally wore something with a sheer chiffon to each of our weddingsāeither a long dress or elegant pantsuit outfit.
Iām more of a tailored gal. If I buy a knee length dress, I could probably get more future use out of it than a maxi garment. D says thatās a silly thing to think about but it is definitely in my mind.
I like jackets and expect I could use them in the future. My SisIL wore a very nice simple navy long jersey gown for MOG in November. She found it at local Macyās store. Iād be happy with something similar.
I think itās very pretty. Really like the color.
Just going to say- that as MOB (D2) outdoor wedding in November 2022 in Austin (ended up being hot) I wore a capped sleeve navy blue jump suit from Macyās and a low heal rustic leather shoe from Dillards with rustic hanging earrings to pop color. Iām quite short and average weight.
I just saw the photos and I looked much better than I expected! I think that the monotone dark solid color ankle length made me look svelte. D1 helped me pick it out and D2 had no requirements.
This is a great price for this dress. I wore it in lavender to DDs wedding. Others on here got it in the sapphire blue. Itās a very comfortable dress. The bling does NOT fall off, and the lace isnt dowdy at all. And it comes in petite sizes!
Thatās very helpful feedback, especially that the lace is comfortable and beading stays where it belongs. It is a very lovely dressāthe silver is an especially amazing price!
Just added this dress to my list.
That is beautiful!!
Iām confused. How can a person clean the dress? Weird.
I also have found that a lot of dresses that have any kind of embellishments these days say āspot clean onlyā including the MOB dress I selected. So I donāt dare wear it anywhere prior to the wedding lest I soil it and be unable to clean it. The MOG has complained about the same thing.
I will likely never re-use my MOG dress. Fine by me (especially since I found a wonderful dress for nieceās blacktie-optional wedding last Oct for $8 at thrift shopā¦ feel like a MOG splurge is ok). However it would be nice if it were washable, in good shape for consignment shop or charity.
@rockymtnhigh2 - Just this morn I had been thinking of a formal jumpsuit idea. Then I remembered that my 95 year old dad really does love to see his ladies (wife, daughters) in dressesā¦ and so far there is a good chance that heāll be able to attend.
That is a pretty dress, but I donāt think of velvet as something Iād wear in Hawaii.
Well, I went to a wedding where one of the flower girls ended up getting a nosebleed after the wedding and got bright red blood all over the white dress. Fortunately my BIL was able to clean it all up before photos and the reception and we never learned of the mishap until after the event was long over. For such events, itās important the garment doesnāt fall apart if it gets wet and needs spot cleaning.
I think Iād be ok in velvet in HI in Oct/Nov, when itās chillier. As a bonus, it would be unlikely anyone would be wearing same outfit.
Iām still mildly traumatized because I wore basically same dress to nieceās wedding as MOB (my sis), except her dress had some fake jewels embellishing the top of her dress. A few of the weddings guests noticed and commented but I could tell sis was unhappy so I promptly fashioned a silk scarf I had bought to cover much of the top of my dress so the two garments looked very different.
(Sis & I have similar hourglass figures and both of us looked great in the dress. Mine looked fine with the scarf as well, which helped because reception venue was cold anyway.)
