The most expensive college in every state, in one map

As a full pay, I just don’t see how any are worth the sticker price.

We found the exact opposite, worth every penny and then some.

Some of the school’s on the list are a surprise. While Whitman is most expensive in WA, it is still considerably cheaper than the high ticket schools, and apparently anything in Wyoming is cheap compared to everywhere else.

It is silly to name Amherst and Yale as most expensive when they are among the nation’s most generous colleges when it comes to financial aid. Sticker price is not a good way to judge college cost.

I really can’t imagine anyone at Wyoming paying $30k. That’s the OOS price.

I’d just point out that even though the column on the chart is labeled “tuition” – it is actually the full COA being listed, including housing & other fees. And I am not sure that all colleges report “soft” elements of COA with the same degree of accuracy. (“Soft” meaning costs that could be flexible or variable – for example, depending on choice of housing or meal plan, or estimated costs like texbooks or incidentals).

I think it is fair to list sticker price. Apples to apples.

Looks like there are only two four year schools in Wyoming.

There really is only one, the U of Wyoming. The other school is a catholic school that doesn’t accept or award federal aid.

Weird list. Not sure it’s accurate or useful. UArizona OOS COA is less than Embry Riddle in Prescott, AZ. Wyoming is quite a bargain if you’re in state and certainly nowhere near 30k for non residents with WUE or other OOS scholarships, but it really doesn’t have much competition for most expensive or cheapest school in its state.

Wyoming Catholic College’s cost of attendance is $32,300 (billed amount plus books and required equipment), according to https://wyomingcatholic.org/admissions/tuition/ .

This is higher than University of Wyoming’s out-of-state cost of attendance of $32,230 ($27,990 billed), according to http://www.uwyo.edu/sfa/cost-of-attendance/index.html . In-state is $20,140 ($15,900 billed).

Is there a list of the least expensive college in every state??

Not sure how old their data is, but Duke’s COA for 2018-19 is closer to $76,000. Also, MIT was around $75,000. But, like others have said, just because they cost that much, does not mean that is what you pay. If we were having to pay $76,000 to send out daughter to Duke next year, she would not be going there.

49% of students at Yale and 45% of students at Amherst are full pay. Not exactly insignificant numbers.

Surprised that Drexel is the most expensive school in PA.

@TheGreyKing there are a surprising amount of people that actually DO pay the full sticker price, like myself, so the results listed are fine with me.

I’m more amazed about how many people anticipate “discounts”

Anyways, here in MA almost every private is going to run you 65-70K, I think we paid around 70k for Northeastern when it was all said and done.

That ‘most affordable’ list left the service academies out. Although you do ‘pay’ with several years of your life afterwards, but if it’s the career you want then that’s hardly a burden.

The most affordable list is inaccurate. For example, University of KY is listed as the least expensive in KY, which just isn’t correct. In fact, it may be the most expensive public school, costing more than U of L, Western KY U, and Murray State, for example.

I thought the “least expensive” list was odd also, Northern Michigan COA $23,866 is less expensive than Western Michigan with a COA of $26,246 and Northern has typically been the least expensive of the 4 year publics I think. Great place, but a long, long drive for the population areas of Michigan.
