Tuition Refund???

If a full-time student accidentally signs up for 18 credits for Spring, and is charged for the extra credit, can they get a refund for the 18th credit if they drop the course this week?

katytibbs,

I’m also puzzled by your comment. I looked over your past posts on the AU board and the responses to them and found no instances of disparaging or abusive responses–what did I miss? Perhaps you are referring to posts made by or about She Who Shall Not Be Named (“SWSNBN”)? Except for the antics of and surrounding SWSNBN, which have to be considered as comic relief, the AU board seems filled with interesting and helpful posts by a lovely bunch of people. Please don’t hesitate to participate. Your input is valued.

Great Happy Hour at Lia’s in Friendship Heights. Had an exceptional hot and rather moist corned beef on rye with latkes at Morty’s this past weekend.

I forgot to mention the wonderful Kabobs and rich spanikopita at Levantes in Bethesda as well. Great places for visiting parents.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement. The posts I spoke about were when I posted that I took my son to Ruby Tuesdays (and recieved a comment like (don’t have the actual quote but it was something like “oh, please, let’s not talk about chain restaurants, lets talk about real restaurants”) and several disparaging comments made in general about students that recieved merit scholarships (of which my son is one), and that full paying students should recieve greater consideration in choices of classes. No names as to who made these comments, I don’t want to point fingers.

I may be being too sensitive, but it definately affected what I post.

Son is back at school but hasn’t responded to either of my texts… I want to know how his first day of classes went but with poor Verizon cell phone reception in his dorm, my calls often don’t go through and my texts are delayed.

Kathy Tibbs:

Sorry I responded to your post on another thread. Anyhow, I would like to respond again here. This is an open forum with opinions. There is free speech in the U.S. It is still my opinion that when you pay full tuition, all kids should have equal ability to choose classes, get a dorm room, year of student, merit, etc. should not affect in any way the ability to get your prerequisite. classes. Why go to the college at all then and why pay for this? I also do not appreciate Ruby Tuesdays because of the mainstream fare and lack of sneeze guards around the limited salad bar. That is just my opinion.

katytibbs,

Yes, now that you have given the specifics, it’s clear that the posts that bothered you all came from one person. Please don’t tarnish all of us with that brush! She’s offended all of us at one time or another-she only posts here to create controversy and watch the fur fly. I guess it’s a form of entertainment. But staying off the board because of her would just let the terrorists win, so to speak.

D has no problems with Verizon reception in her dorm (she’s on the north side). That may be as good a reason as any to choose a different dorm for next year. But it may not be a Verizon problem. Having already sent a boy through college, I know they can really be uncommunicative. It’s frustrating, but you learn to live with it. It’s a totally different story with my D, who just called to alert me to the breaking news that she had taken a nap.

Dear Cadmiumred:

Several people have asked you this, but I don’t believe you’ve ever responded. Given the horrific experiences your daughter has had since setting foot on AU’s campus, is she planning to transfer after this year? If not, how do you feel about spending your hard-earned dollars on a university that has so seriously failed your daughter?

And a request to Mini - please don’t interject one of your tedious comments about CR’s daughter being non-existant.

Cadmiumred:

It’s Ruby Tuesday’s, not Le Cirque. If you don’t want mainstream fare, then don’t go to a place that serves mainstream fare.

I also echo the question about her xferring.

To those who have inquired:

No, my daughter is not transferring and is giving it another chance.

S is so glad to be back at school!

Likes all of his classes except for one, in which he is not thrilled about the professor, so he may see if he can get into another section or else take that class some other semester. He’s carrying a very heavy load this semester so it will be interesting to see how he does. I wouldn’t mind if he dropped a class.

Two of the boys in his group of friends fall semester were exchange students from England…he and his friends miss them very much because they have returned home. They are trying to figure out a reunion this summer, maybe travelling together for a bit.

D also very happy with all but one class–Statistics. Math is not in her wheelhouse to start with, plus the young prof (maybe a grad student?) has no teaching skills and a heavy accent that makes it hard to understand him. Her schedule probably won’t aIlow for a switch, so I suspect a tutor is in her future…Her most pressing problem is that her almost brand new Macbook isn’t working. She is searching for answers online and from more computer savvy friends, but I think she may have to figure out where the nearest Apple store is located. But you know, perspective is everything–I’ve been watching the coverage of the earthquake and can feel only that we Americans are so blessed in every way that we are fools to complain about anything in our lives.

MommaJ:

I completely agree with you about the Haitian crisis. All of our complaints appear very trivial next to this.

MommaJ,

I believe Apple is now supported on campus. Have your D Check with the bookstore (which sells Macbooks) or the IT Department for help.

MommaJ, there is an Apple store right near the Bethesda metro station, only two stops away from AU. There is another in the Pentagon City Mall on the blue/orange line, which has a metro stop in the building. Hope that helps.

Thanks, both of you. She is aware of the on-campus support and just told me about the Bethesda location. Glad to here it’s nor far from the Metro. She was troubleshooting with her brother over the phone and he seems to think the hard drive is kaput, so it’s probably best to go straight to the Apple store. I’m sure she’ll sort things out eventually, though I am quite peeved that such an expensive item was so unreliable. I’m making sympathetic noises as she bemoans life without a laptop, but smiling inwardly, remembering how I got through college and law school with my Smith Corona and tiny black and white TV. Amazing that I managed to get educated with such primitive equipment!

She might want to inquire if she can get a loaner…S2 had macbook problems last summer and the local Apple store had to send it away…it took 12 days before S2 got it back. He was miserable, felt like he was living life without a major appendage.

MommaJ, do you know when the sororities have rush? S mentioned that the fraternities will be having their rush soon, and that he is thinking of joining a fraternity…he is considering one that a lot of the guys on his club soccer team belong to.

Cr,
Will your daughter go through rush? Has she signed a lease for the lovely apartment on Cathedral yet?
