A friend of my DH's called today. I overheard part of a conversation about the new GI bill that goes into effect (is available) August 1. One of the benefits I heard them talking about was that the educational benefits could be transferred to the soldier's spouse or children, and is available for 15 years (in contrast to the current GI bill which is available for 10). It offers differing levels of tuition payment, housing, books, etc, depending on years of service and such. I am sure those in the military can explain this better than I. I tried to read about it on line, and am not sure which description is the most current, though I did find a brochure http://www.gibill.va.gov/pamphlets/ch33/ch33_pamphlet.pdf So, for the men and women of our military, they can help provide for their childrens education with the new GI bill!

Here's another description of the new program GI Bill Home - (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs)
