The NJ NMS semifinalist cutoff?

anyone know? I got 218, which i'm really hoping might be enough for NJ... so close...

please?

You didn't make it sorry.

that's too bad, i was hoping to get it.

why do they do the cutoff thing for different sttaes with such a drastic difference?

I'm guessing because of the contrasting educational opportunities in each state.
The contrast is cause by many things such as family income, state funding of public schools, and even lifestyle.

First off, congrats on an amazing score. I got a 202 and im hoping i just get commendation. As for semifinal qualifying, i think you could make it with a 218.

Congrats on the great score, but it will probably be a few points below the NJ cutoff.
There are differences because of the quality of educational system; you can't expect a 300 student school in WY or a backwood hick school in Arkansas to be on the same level as a school from the northeast.

After looking at this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/385453-official-national-merit-semifinalist-cutoff-scores-2007-a-36.html?highlight=commendation,
it looks like unfortunately you would need at least a 222 or 223 to be a semifinalist in NJ.

the link doesn't work.
I wanted to see the cutoff for the 2007 PSAT that was answered in Oct 2007 and scoes just came in this week. Any idea where the posts would be?

I don't know about that noobcake. You could also say a rich kid from Little Rock High has access to more AP classes and enrichment than a poor kid from Newark or Camden public schools. There really is no fairness in this process. It is what it is.

Last year, NJ's NMSF cutoff was 221.

It probably won't change more than +/-1

I got 220 last year. =/
