The NMF cat may be out of the bag....

My son and other NMSF's at his school got a note asking them to wear a coat and tie for a group picture next week. The note started "Dear National Merit Scholar...."

I know this may not mean anything, but since he never got a letter.....

Yearbook deadlines are very soon. Your school may have deduced who the NMF’s are by lack of rejection letters and wants a pic for the yearbook.

Your child’s school usually has about 20+ NMFs…is that right…or is that another school?

Yes, that is his school. This year they have 32. Last year they had 28, and all made NMF. The year before, only one kid out of (I think) 31 did not advance.

It’s not that our kids are that much smarter than anyone else’s. It’s because from the moment they step on campus as 8th graders, the top-track honors kids have the importance of the PSAT drilled into their heads. The first quarter of English IV (jr year) is as much about PSAT prep as it is about English.

And most of those boys take that first SAT after the PSAT (while it’s all still fresh) and most of them crush it.
