The offical thread for majors that complement each other...!

Pretty strait forward... i am sure, plenty of people are interested in double majoring (including myself), and i understand that double majoring usually depend purely on a persons style, i do not mean for this thread to mandate the majors that must go with each other, but to suggest a general basis for students to begin their selection. Could anyone help me start a running list of majors that complement each other and why they do so? uhm i suppose the same could be done with minors as well, thanks for your support...

format:

1) 1st major
2) 2nd major/1st minor

"and why they complement each other here "

A common one is English/Creative Writing because they are so closely aligned. DD1 is thinking of doing that.

Years ago DW doubled in Finance/Math. It worked very well. She got interviews based on the Finance major and was selected for jobs based on the Math. It was a differentiator.

Science is full of this - mathematics/physics, stats/biology, computer science/biology, microbiology/biochem, biology/physics. These are great because all science students are required to take basically the same pre reqs so there really isn't much extra coursework for another major.

My wife had an interesting double major - art history/chemistry. The ultimate goal is art restoration.

At my d's orientation, they told them that double majors only made sense if the two fields were unrelated, and the more unrelated the fields, the better.

engineering/business
Knowledge of both areas is helpful because engineering is done based on business decisions to some extent. Alos opens more doors for career.

psychology/math-statistics
psych uses statistics

psychology/biology
Psychology comes from biology.
