The official 2009 APUSH after exam discussion thread

omg, my friend used jews. We all stared at her. I really know nothing about them.
The Jewish kid taking the test chose number 4.

This is the biggest thing for Jews, [MS St. Louis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](MS St. Louis - Wikipedia).

Also, you could talk about how government officials were anti-Semite if you wanted to.

I mentioned Korematsu v. US in #5.
Will I lose a lot of points on #5 if I only talked about blacks on the war front, not the home front?
For Jap. Americans, I talked about them on the home front.

Did anyone use Jewish Americans for Number 5?

Lol I had a brain block so I used them. I just said that they were upset at the events in Europe (Poland and Germany) and that many of them had relatives who they were unable to locate (worried that they were in concentration camps). The US banned immigration from Germany controlled areas so I said that some Jews grew upset and impatient with the government and protested to allow immigration and aid to those suffering in Europe. I also said that they began to formulate and plan to create the free state of Israel (not sure if that is right). I also used general things like how habeas corpus was suspended and how overall they enjoyed a period of wealth and prosperity (increase in college and synagogue attendance)

Basically, I made all of this stuff up. Hopefully at least most of it was right!

lol, i said that they wanted Roosevelt to free the concentration camps, but they were largely ignored because of anti semitism

Bish^ we didnt learn abt that in our class

We can discuss specifics right now, right? I mean, I know that 48 hours has elapsed since I finished my test at least…

^Can someone confirm?

Anyway, I thought that the DBQ could literally not have been harder. That said I still did okay on it because I BS’ed the hell out of it (although I forgot the Missouri Compromise… w/e). Like seriously, WHO came up with that topic? It’s not even true (or at least it’s really controversial); I mean it asks us just to accept the fact that amidst a time period that was the heart of the slavery years, a lot of slaves were freed? ***?

I said that they wanted Roosevelt to free the concentration camps, but I don’t really think it was because of anti-semitism. Honestly, it was probably the fact that the US feared Germany.

Yes we can talk about the DBQ and FRQs now

I said it could have been because of anti semitism, not that roosevelt was an anti semite. I also said the Roosevelt’s first objective was winning the war, so he really didnt care abt the concentration camps.

That’s a decent argument. Hopefully I didn’t botch that one up too badly.

Does anyone find it strange that women weren’t a choice for #5? I would have had so much more to say about them!

the person, yup!

what was the cutoff for a 5 last year? I can’t find it in this thread!!

ThePerson1- Yeah! I would’ve used them and Japanese Americans if they had been a choice.

so, if for #5, i read the question incorrectly and everything I said about AA was post-WWII but everything I said about Japanese Americas was during WWII, will I get a 0 on the essay or do I have a shot at a few points?

oh, and the other one i did was #3. really LOVED that question. it was about the formation of the republican party and I wrote about the failures of the whigs socially, economically, and politically and how the republican party basically took up their platform (I can write more about my specifics if someone comments that he/she also did this Q).

for the DBQ, I basically included what everyone is talking about. Plus some stuff about African American individuality (i.e. surnames, religion, no pseudo-marriages) and monroevia.

personally, I walked into the test saying “Wow, I’ve been doing so well on MC I have room to bomb an essay.” and well, I did, bc I didn’t read the question properly (imagine that, reading comprehension is my biggest problem on the APUSH test). However, the test is designed so that if you are a super MC test taker, then the essays are way less important, and more than that, killing one essay won’t kill anyone. that being said, some ppl are talking about how they thought the MC was super hard. the same thing applies, if you are super good at one part of the test, you can easily make up for the MC with the essays. so I have my fingers crossed for everyone!!

still, if someone knows, can you please answer my question about whether or not I will get any points on essay #5, I mean any at ALL, as in a 1 or 2?

Bee123–Last year I believe it was a 116? But I’m not entirely sure on that.

I chose Japanese Americans and Mexicans. Japanese = Camps, and discrimination after Pearl Harbor. Mexicans = Bracero program, and contributing to the war effort.

I don’t know why you think you would get a 0 if half of the FRQ was in the right time period

lol, i also ended up talking about adams onis treaty and the advent of the textile industry to help explain the further spread of slavery. Of course, this was facilitated by the Louisiana Purchase, but w/e.

DBQ was actually pretty easy…

OH, and if i talked about little steel formula and the no strike pledge for number five in regards to african americans, would that be correct? I assumed some were in unions :P

Also talked about randolph and the CORE and FEPC

yeah, Adams-Onis, 1825 Erie Canal, other facets of the transportation revolution like RRs, turnpikes
