Schwaby: Deal with it, ok?

it's here again because rbase07 felt it was an issue

RBase07:

Thanks for you're explanation. It was so very eloquent.

Now tell me why this wouldn't be better served in the SAT/ACT forum?

don't you just love how friendly we are to each other :)

I just asked a simple question.

He/she was the one who got huffy. ;)

anyone who has taken 9th grade geometry, should get at least a 600 on math, (u can get a lot of questions wrong). and verbal, if u actually are serious about journalism, u would be interested in reading books and newspapers. most people i know who read books on a regular basis didn't even have to study to get at least a 600. u are about 200 points below that, time to accept that u didn't study enough and study harder. for some schools like caltech, it is not possible to get in without a high SAT(1500), the SAT maybe not be perfect, but it does reflect your abilities and work ethic. maybe u should start caring more about your future like the people who was obsessed with their SAT scores.

Here comes the flaming....

the trick to cc: don't get mad, get glad :p

I said you might get in to HYPSM with a 1450. Many do. But my point was that other things being equal the applicant with a 1550 will have a better chance than the one with the 1450.

There are handful of kids each year who get into elite schools with a 1250, but that doesn't mean that 1250 is just fine and there is no need to retake if you aspire to an elite school. Retaking, in these cases, is about increasing your chances of getting to where you want to go.

[QUOTE=""]

People are just stupid and think numbers are so important yale is going to take a 1550 over my 1540<<

No, but they'll take it over a 1450 (again, other things being equal), which was my point.

show me two 100% equal canidates except for scores and I'll change my views

thanks celebrian, but I already know that little trick:

I'm too mature to get into a flame war with jeffl. He's obviously too obstinate to accept anyone else's views except his own. I, however, put my own opinions on the line when I decided to create this topic, knowing that there would be a seemingly infinite of opinions contradictory to my own. However, I still made the thread because this disease of SAT retakitis and studying incessantly for the SAT's seems to have consumed the entire populace of the Collegeconfidential.com forums.
And, an aside: I haven't taken the SATII writing yet, and I won't be able to now seeing as I took the SAT on the last date you could take the writing, January 22. BUT, on my PSAT results, my writing score was a 70, and my possible SAT writing scores indicate that I could get anywhere up to an 800. Clearly, I am not a dumbass. Academically lopsided when it comes to math versus writing, yes, but no dumbass.

eh, I quite like these arguements I'm always finding myself in :p I know what it's like when the majority of people have views contradictory to your own, so I was just here for some moral support

Meh. Let them study and retake. It's their choice.

You know, for a site of such academicly gifted kids, most of these board dwellers are suprisingly close-minded in that they believe both that the SAT is a measure of actual intelligence and that anyone who 'underperforms' on it is "academically inadequate". Nevere mind that most of the high scorers only do so because their daddies have the resources to pay for test prep books and SAT tutors. The ONLY reason why people underachieve on the SAT is because they don't 'read enough'.

I'm going to let out a very big secret right now... The only thing that the SAT measures is how well of a SAT test-taker you are. Those that have test prep and practice tests will do better simply because they have taken more practice tests.

yeah, schwababy, but I'm trying to prevent ignorant attitudes like this perfect example:

That may be true in some cases, but in many others, that is complete bulls**t.

like which cases? Give me some specifics.

I got a 1240 on my SAT as a 7th grader.
Ended up with a 1560 this year. 35 on the ACT.

Never studied once.
My father barely pulls in $40k.

Specific enough for you?

if you use jeffl logic, anyone getting below a 1200 is destined to flip burgers at mcdonalds.

it's all on your test taking skills. schwaby has mastered the system, along with plenty of CCers. I know I'm a horrible test taker, especially when it comes to math. It's all about gaming the system
