The Official WAITING FOR MAY 2008 SAT SCORES Thread

@Narcissa, How did you study for CR? What methods did you use? Please help?

@Quick - I used Barron's 2400 ... it was awesome! I got quite a few wrong, but on practice tests, I applied their techniques, and it really worked for me (I don't know... you might find it redundant). As for the essay, well, I looked up past prompts on Google, and wrote as much as possible. I wrote one essay every day 2 weeks before the test.

@Narcissa - CR: 5 weeks. W: 2 weeks. M: 3 weeks. So basically about a month of studying. I didn't study any vocab though.

most of my CR studying was vocab. um. i did lots of practice from the princeton and kaplan book and then a few tests from the bluebook since i had lost it until the last day. the PR and K book sucked btw. and i read A LOT on my off time so yeah =P haha

O.o that's kind of what I did. I think I only missed like 1 W MC and beforehand I was missing like 4 or 5. For the essay, what is CB looking for in a 10/11 essay? If I like had a sound argument and two concrete examples would that result in a 10?

^ Did you sentence structure vary, and did you sprinkle good vocab here and there?

If yes, you have a strong shot at 10.

@Narcissa, what did you read on your off time? Newspaper? Novels? Thanks!

@Feed, my sentence had a lot of variation and I am very good at using transitions. As for vocabulary, I used 3 or 6 good vocab. Is this good enough for a 10?

Gotta go sleep, peace!

^ I think it is... what was your thesis/topic? And examples?
Basically if your opening para was good, and your topic sentences for your body paras were good, and your last sentence was good, you should get at LEAST a 9. I knew an aunt's friend who was an SAT grader, and she told me these are the things CB tells them to look at:

Intro.

Well-established thesis.

AT LEAST 2 examples (I know you might have read an essay or two that only used 1 example... but CB graders are trained to look for 2 examples).

Conclusion.

They don't care much about what BS you put in the middle ...an SAT grader has like 1000 essays to read per day. They just glance at the body paras and see if you used good vocab too.

Good luck! ;)

lol..i read a lot. i remember summer of my freshman year i read like 80 books in 2 months...

To help with your vocab and CR, definitely read like classical books. I read jane austens books (all of them they were awesome) and like, count of monte cristo (which everyone loves so definitely read it if u haven't already), and a lottt more. oh and i read a whole lot of mythology books. like greek mythology. i was obsessed for a while. yup reading is super fun!!!

except what am i saying i got like two wrong :p

Count of Monte Cristo = Epitome of AWESOME.

Lol, Narcissa... I just got an image of an Asian guy (quick :p) reading Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility... AND enjoying it. Haha.

On the reals, classics are great. Read Jules Verne if you have time.

lol.. probably half of the people on here are asian.. dam crazy azn parents..

My parents actually aren't that bad although my dad is always pestering me to go to UPenn .. but other than that they aren't as strict as most.

haha. I am from China...

this is a little late but... 14 days!!!

I have no idea why I'm up at this hour. Does anyone know where I put my chem book? I lost it...

Anyways, IB keeps grinding my AP studying to a halt and I need to study like a monkey for the AP Micro/Macro exams. Ugh, those free response questions = death

haha yeah screw AP i'm tired of taking exams..

13.75 days left guys.

You guys shouldn't freak out so much about the scores. Better pay attention to school and prep for retake (if needed). You can't change anything about the May test so why bother even think about it?!

^it's human nature :p

@Flame, so... what are you doing on here? ;)

It's probably more fun anticipating than getting the scores... and when I get the scores, I can at least get a preliminary chance done on the other threads, which would be nice. Scores suck - summarizing your ability in a few digits. (or 1 if you're taking IB/AP tests). That's why I won't be really worried until the actual applications start, when the differentiation really matters.

im asian. =]
