The path to medicine/dentistry for a student who...

Wasn't a top student at school....

I'm a junior in high school right now and I unfortunately am not one of those students who takes 6 AP's, gets 5's on all the tests, gets straight A's, got a 2400 on the SAT, cured cancer....

Yeah I'm exaggerating but you get the point.

I'm not not a bad student but I know there were points where I could have done MUCH better. I still have this 2nd semester of junior year to go and next year so I still have some time.

But my question is, do my options completely close to med-school/dental school (even pre-med and pre-dental) if I wasn't excellent in high school? What can I do if I wasn't a top student and still pursue these careers?

Your high school performance has little bearing on your future at this point. I would suggest that you try to develop some solid study habits, finish out high school, try to do some shadowing to get a feel for the fields, and also, some volunteer work never hurt anyone. Apply to colleges which you feel are a good fit for you, not necessarily good for "pre-med/dent" you may change your mind after all. Excel in all of your classes in college, stay involved in activities you care about, and try to enjoy your college years. When applying to prof/grad schools, they will not care how you did in high school (Assuming you're not applying to any combined degree programs.) Just try to maintain a solid gpa (3.5+), study for mcat/dat, and you should be in good shape, as long as your whole application is pretty strong.
