Hi!

I have so many questions about the Peace Corps that I'm not even sure where to begin! Any input at all would really be appreciated; if you have experience with the Corps, please use this thread as carte blanche to describe anything you think a possible future applicant would benefit from knowing.

Also, please give the name of your undergraduate institution, whether or not civil service was emphasized there, and the types of community service in which you were involved as a college student.

If that's too broad a request:

Are you a college student interested in the Peace Corps? A high schooler? A former volunteer? An already-accepted future volunteer? The relative of a volunteer?

Describe your assignment, or the assignment of an acquaintance.

Describe Peace Corps living conditions.

When did you apply? Before/after grad school? After starting a career?

List recommendations for potential applicants/accepted volunteers.

Is the Peace Corps selective? How long did your personal application/placement process take? Did you have a say in choosing your destination? (Yes, I have already perused the official website and FAQs; I'd just like to hear a more personal take on it!)

Thanks in advance for your contributions!
