i,ve read numerous posts on this board about which schools colby is and isnt like and what kind of kids can or cant fit in at colby. But, my question is, what is the typical student like, what is waterville like, what specifically seperates colby and makes it different than Bates, Bowdoin, Dartmouth, Middlebury, Hamilton, etc?

Typical student: White, upper or upper-middle class, from northeastern US, liberal
That's stereotypical anyway, obviously there are lots of different people at any college you go to.

Waterville: Well, let's just say it's slightly better than Lewiston, which isn't saying much, but there really isn't much better one can honestly say. It's a pretty mediocre town, but there are some restaurants and stuff. There are lots of good reason to look at Colby; Waterville isn't one of them.

The differences between Colby and the colleges you listed aren't that significant.
Bates really is right in Lewiston, where as Colby is set slightly apart from Waterville.
Bowdoin, Dartmouth and Midd are decidedly more selective.
I don't know much about Hamilton.
