The School Motto

Hey guys just a future applicant here. But am I the only one who thinks Dartmouth has by FAR the most ill motto?

"The voice of one crying out in the wilderness"

Is that motto not epic?!?

Yeah, like an SOS call from someone lost in the North woods.

It’s from the Bible, namely John 1:23.

“He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.”

It fits when you consider Dartmouth’s history of being founded in the 18th century by Rev. Wheelock as a missionary school with the goal of educating and converting the native Americans to Christianity. The motto was chosen by Rev. Wheelock himself,

Thought there would be a mention of a “vomlette”.
