The schools you would NEVER go to...

I personally wouldn't go to any: Non-city school, school too far away from east coast, school that is absolutely tiny, or HP GT MIT. But on the oppositte end...GO JHU!

Hopkins doesnt exactly have a city school feel...

what is wrong with Boston University? cus i applied there..

Boston College! < BU!

what is wrong with Boston University?

A lot, frankly.

This isn't exactly schools I would never attend, but it is schools that I wouldn't really consider:
-No West Virginia or Ohio (see below)
-No Pennsylvania except Swarthmore, Penn, Bucknell (I'm from Pittsburgh)
-No massive state universities (ex. Ohio St., Indiana, Texas)
-No California (lived there for 12 years- don't really want to spend 4 more)
-No overt religiousness (ex. Bob Jones, Liberty, BYU, Notre Dame- note: I have no problem with the concept, I'm just not very religious at all)
-No women's colleges (I'm a man)
-No colleges with less than 25% male or female (I want testosterone or estrogen, whichever the case maybe)
-No HBCUs (I'm white)
-No NYU-esque schools (ie no campus)
-No Florida or any of the mountain states (ie Montana, Idaho)
-Preferably east of the Mississippi
-No New York City
-Preferably less than 5000 undergrads (this is a little debatable)
-No Harvard or Princeton (I'm not conceited enough) (I like the other Ivies fine- especially Dartmouth)

I'm far to demanding.

Yes, but its close enough to the inner harbor in baltimore, a drive away from DC (one of my favorite cities), and its a great distance from home. So it gets all the other requirements. And I just like the feel of it. I think a lot of people just "go with their gut" with things like location or feel.

tufts, too much like high school

same with UVirginia

Princeton; high grade deflation, and it seems like their acceptances are too focused on scores, meaning a lot of people there are probably pretentious and over-competitive. And I know a lot of people who go there end up doing 5 years. Besides, blair waldorff calls prinecton a trade school :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Also MIT & Cal Tech because of level of difficulty/grade deflation. I wouldn’t go anywhere with major grade deflation.
And I’m not just being sour grapes :stuck_out_tongue: I haven’t applied yet.

And…any community college. And BYU.

American University bc they charge credits after 18 or something.
and it’s expensive as it is.

Anywhere super religious
Military schools

Another thread resurrection?

Smith.

Rice University

Community College
Georgetown

Duke, Vanderbilt, or really anywhere in the south, well at least not for undergrad.

I don’t want to say “never” because I can’t speak for schools I don’t attend. However, I can say for certain that I wouldn’t ever want to go to Liberty or Bob Jones University (or those like them), because I’m a liberal Catholic and would probably cry myself to sleep every night.

I also don’t love most of the schools in the Deep South (although I like Vanderbilt) - I’m not a hot weather person. Also, I don’t think I could attend a school like NYU, which has no official campus, simply because I live right near the city to begin with. I’d like to go somewhere new…MN, here I come.

USC, any community colleges, NYU, any schools like MIT or Cal Tech (wayyyyy too nerdy), GWU, American University, LSU, Ohio State, UC Riverside, UC Merced, UCI, Texas A&M, Michigan State, Michigan, BYU, Soka University, Chapman University, Pepperdine, and Bob Jones University.
Any school in Ohio, Louisana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Michigan, New York (except maybe Cornell), Alaska, West Virginia, Utah, New Jersey, or Kentucky.
Any Cal States other than Cal Poly SLO and SDSU
Any commuter schools
Any religious schools except Notre Dame, Villanova, USD, TCU, a few others
Any trade/technical schools (ITT Tech, Devry, etc…).
Any schools located directly in cities (think NYU) w/ the exception of Georgetown, UCLA, Texas, and Washington. (maybe Boston College)
Any liberal arts college
Any all single sex schools
Any HBCUs
Any schools outside of the US w/ the exception of University of British Columbia
Any schools w/out football and/or basketball teams

I think it’s advisable for most people to try to limit the number of undergraduate institutions they attend to one or two.

If they do so, there will be four thousand or so institutions they will never attend as an undergraduate.

No Bob Jones University or public schools for me
And no NYU or super religious institutions like Wheaton (IL).
