Since it's close to the final day to submit that deposit. I'm just wondering which top colleges did people at CC turn down for a lesser known or prestigious school, and why?

I will start first:
turned down Cornell for Rice

b/c fin aid and location

turned down wash univ in st. louis, johns hopkins, cornell, univ of michigan, (univ of virginia? is it "top?")... for cost, largeness, or lack of ability to double major as i want (cornell).

now trying to decide btwn william and mary vs. emory..

I know one of my friend's prefrosh turned down Harvard for medical program at Rice.

I turned down Suge Knight's Compton Community College of Hustlin' and Criminal Justice for $hittsville State College in Bumble*****, AL. For financial aid reasons, but I'm starting to regret it. IDK if I want to be in alabama for four years!

A friend of mine turned down Rice for in-state Arizona State (as a Flinn scholar, which is pretty much the most glorious scholarship/honor a person can for an in-state college)... If it were me, I still would've wanted to go out-of-state.

I turned down UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, U.S. Naval Academy, and SF State.

For West Point (U.S. Military Academy). I just like the overall feel of the place better and I always wanted to go to a service academy anyway so when I was offered an appointment to both of the academies I applied to, the UC Schools really didn't play a factor anymore.

Turned down Cal, Oberlin, Tufts, Colgate for Wesleyan.

Turned down Princeton, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon for MIT.

I turned down North Carolina School of the Arts because they did not have the major I wanted. But, I am now really regretting it.

turning down carnegie mellon for MIT, or Colgate for Wesleyan do not qualify. Please look at the OP and post your relevant results, this isn't very complicated.

Emory/NYU Stern got turned down for UMich.

turned down JHU for BC last year, completely regret it, now I am transferring

^^Mich is better than both is some ways...

I turned down UChicago and Mich for Penn. Penn is ranked higher, but depending on who you talk to, the other two schools may be better or just more well known.

UChicago isnt more well known, at least on the street, than Penn..the majority of people dont know what UChicago is

Michigan I would agree

Some say that Chicago > Penn for undergrad. I slightly agree.

I would agree as well, but as far as being more well known, Penn wins

Trizkutt

Thanks for the belly-laugh. I needed that

Turning down Harvard for Rice/Baylor isn't surprising, its sensible. Rice-Baylor 8 year med is probably one of the most sought after programs in the country for premeds (next to Brown PLME, and Northwestern HPME), and all of these programs usually win their crossadmits from Harvard.

I turned down Tufts and Colgate for Cornell
I'm pretty happy at Cornell, but often think about what life would have been like at Tufts. I wouldn't say I regret my decision but sometimes I do wonder...hm.
