The Singaporean Connection

your intl relations prof might be correct, JHU's SAIS has eliot cohen and francis ***uyama, so its probably the best place if you want a neocon indoctrination.

monosierra: you're basing everything on academics... this isnt nus.. things dont work the same way over in the states.

you need to buck up on your ECAs. Even a 1440 would have been competitive. 1540 puts you in the safe range but you need stellar (or at least moderately good) essays and outstanding ECAs. The Chicago essays are wierd so that applicants can differentiate themselves from everyone else who is applying.

And yeah. Georgetown and JHU are bigs names. A friend of mine got rejected from Georgetown w/ a 1600 if u want to base admissions off academics and SAT scores. The admission process is extremely unpredictable for the tier 1 schools.

georgetown sfs rocks.

agreed, for those who fall between '@#*#@ outstanding' and merely 'excellent' its something of a crapshoot.

bump/...........

hey u raffles ppl!!! i aksed a ques ages ago n no one answered!! lol
i shall ask again [ though i cant rem much of wat i aksed], i think it was which gp tutors in rj are more approachable for help with sat writing.... and another thing which i shall ask when i rem.... :p

i realise this is a long shot because the random posts here seem to be strictly ignored.. are there any other singaporeans going to canada this fall as freshmen?

Heh, I'm possibly one of the youngest ones in the community, but yeah. Singaporean. But I figured I'll be lurking around until a year or two later before I send my applications off. Nice to see all us Singaporeans here. =)

haha, wanna introduce urself culpa:)..I'll prob apply in one or two years' time also:)

missbean - it's pro'lly 'cause no-one is going to canada.

eh, invictus, don't be like me, send in your visa application early! : / and remember to follow up if it doesn't come back in a month.</p>

wow, i'm surprised how active this thread is. maybe a singaporean US univ forum needs to be started for 'em young ones!

active? u gotta be kiddin man!!! we had no post for a whole freakin month!!!

hey neha....how's ur summer? are we meeting up anytime? I leave on Aug 13th.

tbhnams (and everybody in general, of course!): Well, female, graduating from secondary school (yes, I'm still that young!) this november - and frankly can't wait for that to happen - and .. yeah. Suppose that's all. Haven't gave full thought of which colleges I'm interested in, though I've got a few ideas where ;)

seeker: That suggestion sounds good. Anyone wants to take up that? Heee.

hey anand! i shud pm u my cell number or somehting, easier to contact....and by then premanjali n hayden [otjer cc members]
will also be in town!!

missbean: you seem to be quite desperate to find people going to Canada with you!

I am going to UBC (as are you, yes?) and while I am not Singaporean (I wish I was...), I did live there for a while.

wolfstarslasher: haha.. just wondering were the other 150 singapore applicants were hiding (not all 149 of them could have been turned down..), that's all. ;p

yes, going ubc this year.

My goodnes...150? That's quite a lot.

What faculty are you in?

i think that's the number the admissions officer cited when she came a-visiting earlier this year.

in arts. =)

Hey guys, I can see that this thread has stopped for almost a month, wondering if there is any Singaporean or people living in Singapore hanging out here:)
I've got a question concerning the bookstores in Singapore. I'm living in Vietnam right now and it's hard to find a SAT prep book. So I will really appriciate it if someone can recomend me of an address from which I can find these kind of books
The Elements of Style, Fourth Edition - William Strunk Jr.
The RocketReview Revolution: The Ultimate Guide to the New SAT - Adam Robinson
Merriam-Webster's Vocabulary Builder
Barron's Chem as well :)
Buying books from Amazon is another choice, but shipping rate is even higher than the books themselves, and it takes a long time. I got some friends who travel back and forth from VN and they can help me buy some books, therefore I really look forwards to your answer.
Thanks in advance everyone:)

hmm i think u can find elements of style, rocket review and barron's chem in borders... never noticed merriam-webster though.
