The stats of a person still waiting...

Of course it's me. I just heard one of my friends got accepted today and another got rejected today.

So I'm here to rant about my stats. Someone please point out, besides the GPA, why UCI has kept me waiting for so long?

Applied for Computer Engineering

My stats:

3.5 UC (school is ranked #473 in the nation)
1350 (620 Verbal, 730 Math)
770 Writing, 740 Math IIC, 620 Physics

7 Honors, 7 AP, 3 College classes.

School website administrator (currently co-webmaster)
Varsity Tennis #2 Singles.

Yeah I'm really unhappy when I've had to live through 26 days of uncertainty. You see, it was okay at the beginning because I thought I might've gotten lucky and gotten into SD, but it didn't happen. Then there was a slight relief when SB and Davis accepted me. But that was 11 days ago and I'm starting to worry again.

So let me tell you more about my stats specifically

4 years of english (honors, honors, ap, ap)
4 years of history (honors, ap, ap, ap)
5 years of math (honors, honors, honors, college - Calculus, AP)
5 years of science (reg, reg, reg, reg, AP)
3 years of Spanish (reg, reg, reg)
1 semester of Japanese (college)
Random UC college prep electives (one was Honors)
2 semesters of Chinese

Oh yes and the Calculus classes (Math 2A and Math 2B) were taken at UCI.

Though I only recieved a years worth of credit from my chinese school, I graduated junior year after 11 years of hell and got a Certification of Completion.

Yes, I wrote all this stuff on my application.

Oh yes as for tennis, I was cut Freshman year, JV Vice-Captain sophomore year, Varsity #2 singles junior year (technically you could call this Varsity Vice-Captain), and right now i'm still #2. Yeah, that's how fast I improved.

I really wanted to write that my gpa was so low because I used to play tennis for 3 hours a day literally everyday (because tennis was an obsession), but of course that would sound wussy.

AGH.

Well, now I feel better after releasing all this frustration.

Goes to camp on the UCI site again

Wow Its Going To Suck If You Didnt Get In. Also Considerting all the people with low gpa's and sat's that got in. But then again most were to criminology. I think that they are doing it all according to major. Or they may look and see that you are accepted to davis and sb and see that you already have a place to goto college and they might take the kid who hasnt gotten into and uc's like they did with the :D well um ok ....

I'm sure you got in. Think of it this way, your waiting will end in less than 5 days. But, I've heard of people who got their acceptance on the 31st.

So, stop worrying. Is UCI your first choice? Even above UCD?

Yeah UCI's my first choice. Thanks for the positive reinforcement you guys. I feel a bit better now and I'll just wait out these five days and hope for a good result!

coolman

i know people that have been admitted into UCI this year with stats and efforts FAR lower than yours so on paper you look great. but i now know that paper means diddly and it's impossible to forecast the profile of acceptance with so many other variables in the mix. anyway i wish you luck, but keep your options open in case irvine gets weird on you. personally i think the UC system is trying to "profile" their campuses and route via accepts/rejects the students they want to fit the school. in some ways, seems like santa cruz got tougher and irvine got easier. don't know what's up with that but if that's a shift in profiling, then a person like you who normally would be slam dunk for UCI could get pushed out in order to get some B students in with different backgrounds. or something. again good luck.

coolman25: we're all rooting for you :)

i got in UCI march 1st w/ stats lower than u well my GPA was 3.83 but other than that urs is better. i think u'll get in cuz most my friends got in. the ones that didn't have GPA below 3.5 n SAT below 1100. So don't worry!

Engineering has the highest average stats, I believe.

I just called UCSD today. Short by 348 points. Great. 200 hours of community service and 0.048 higher on my gpa would've gotten me in. But I found out something rather interesting. They said my UC GPA is actually 3.57

Horray.

"Or they may look and see that you are accepted to davis and sb and see that you already have a place to goto college and they might take the kid who hasnt gotten into and uc's..."

Is that true? I didn't know that the UC's work as a whole to admit students.

Anyways, I hope you get in, coolman.

I don't think they know if the other campuses have accepted a student.

dont worry coolman

my friends were accepted this week

Only a few more days, coolman. I really hope you get in.
