The Tennis Thread

BC, you are watching a match (I think the final) from last year - there was a rain delay so a bunch of matches were cancelled and TC showed that instead. David lost yesterday.

Yup, I caught that when I advanced and it had the Tursanov match. Oh well, enjoyable to watch. The previous R16 match wasn’t that interesting.

Apparently there’s rain for like the next 4-5 days. Bad tournament anyway, there’s only like one court streamed.

Well, there isn’t anything else on my ESPN streaming feed so it’s either old matches or whatever they throw out there.

Already can’t wait for the tour to come back to this hemisphere. Time difference destroys everything.

Do any of you play tennis?

I post my match results on the diet/exercise thread. I do a fair amount of fitness work to support my tennis game.

I started lessons once a week in March :stuck_out_tongue: In college I’ll play regularly.

I play once a week but only doubles now.

Anyone else finding it difficult to find NTRP 4.0 or better players without having to pay to be on a USTA team?

No. Today you can go word-of-mouth if you are reasonably good at socializing of use the Internet. This is assuming that you don’t live in a low-density tennis area or you aren’t willing to drive.

I played twice last year before I hurt myself and sprained my wrist. Now my friends don’t want to invite me back because they say I’m a liability
Lol

FG, that’s a shame. In my game (there are 6 of us who share 4 spots) there is always a few who are battered and bruised and show up with various body parts wrapped. But our game is strictly social and we often end up chatting more than playing.

Best thing for a sprained wrist is rest. I sprained my wrist a few years ago diving for a ball (shouldn’t do that at my age). After the fall, I cleaned myself up and finished the set and then realized that I had sprained my wrist driving home. Fortunately it was on the left hand. It took about two months to heal completely. If you sprained your wrist on your dominant hand, then that can be a real pain. I think that the healing process is actually fairly quick but you keep reinjuring it doing everyday things.

BC, mine was similar but I was going back for a ball, lost my footing and flew backwards to the ground. Talk about embarrassing.

I landed butt first and the momentum made me flip backwards
I put my arms out to stop from hitting my head. It was an epic fall. (or would it be epic fail? )

My whole self hurt the rest of the day but I didn’t realize my wrist was sprained till I woke up the next morning. All in all it took about two or three months to heal. It may have been a little sooner but after a month I went swimming
Completely under estimated the amount of force that the water puts on your arms and after that I was back to square one again.

Pretty much put me out for the rest of last years tennis and golf season in the northeast. I’d love to go back and play but like I said they are a bit resistant that I won’t break my face. They did however say we can return to the driving range
Lol

Emily, my tennis playing friends take it very seriously. They even have a goofy trophy that the winner each day takes home till they play again!

I am fortunate enough to be a member of an inexpensive tennis club near my home. I play doubles three or four times a week. I have played USTA but it’s not as much fun for me.

There are plenty of tennis clubs and other courts in my area. I absolutely love the game.

“Emily, my tennis playing friends take it very seriously. They even have a goofy trophy that the winner each day takes home till they play again!”

If we did that the winner would probably forget to bring it the next week. Sometimes we even have trouble remembering in the middle of a game who won the last point!

I used to play for years in another contract (along with playing with the Chatterers.) 16 of us shared three courts, but the girls were too serious for me. They were better players and my game was better when I played with them, but it wasn’t nearly as much fun.

Played USTA one season and that was even worse. If you blew a point the looks could kill.

Now I just play for the fun and the social aspect. We are more concerned with where we are going to lunch after than tennis. :)

Woo Milos winning his match. Now to lose to Nadal in the next round :(

Oh wow, Raonic/Nadal is live on Tennis Channel right now.

Really sad I had to miss the crowd booing Djokovic (vs. Dimitrov) :(
