The Too Big to Fail Doctrine

Not looking for an easy excuse, k&s--just looking at the facts as they stand this year! The SEC has become somewhat of a dominant force in football these days...
And by graduation rates, I am speaking about graduation rates of the #1 ranked team followed by the the #2 ranked team (in some polls); both being SEC schools and grad rates much lower than ND.

In today's Observer (student newspaper)--http://media.[BREAKING NEWS: Sources say Weis staying - Sports](http://www.ndsmcobserver.com/media/storage/paper660/news/2008/12/02/Sports/Breaking.News.Sources.Say.Weis.Staying-3566541.shtml).

Looks like Weis will be around for another year!

He is truly too big to fail.

Fat person joke ^ ^ ^ ?

No, a fat wallet joke.

I'm curious - what do the players think of their coach? Obviously no current players would want to go on record with any comments, but have there been any comments by former players? Good or bad?

@ partygrl: Mike Golic, an ND football alum, who I love to listen to on 'Mike and Mike in the Morning' on ESPN radio, commented today that he feels all college coaches deserve 5 years, Weis included. He didn't really say much beyond that in favor of or against Coach Weis. Mike Golic also has a son currently playing at ND, so that may create some bias.

On the other hand, Joe Theismann, former ND QB, was interviewed by a Chicago newspaper last week. He said something along the lines of: coaching does not deserve all the blame, but he does blame coaching when an opposing team lines up to attempt an onside kick and the ND players appear to be clueless. Theismann went on to say that he wanted to see ND approach the SC game with passion and a desire to play each play like it was their last, possibly hinting at the fact that he is skeptical of Weis' ability to motivate his players
