@Julieanne916 Thank you!
how long did it take you guys to get accepted to the facebook group chat
@AshleyD2 I think they add within 24 hrs, at least that is what the group mentioned above did.
Looking for any detailed information on the Trojan Transfer Plan. Ie: if a student is accepted, is housing guaranteed? Are there any special orientation programs offered prior to move-in? Since a decision may not be made until May/June, will it be difficult to enroll in classes?
@buttercup2023 Housing not guaranteed, honestly, it can be a challenge. You see if they have space after accepted (you apply and wait) and if not, it can be tough finding anything near campus at that point. It is stressful because housing isn’t gonna be square till likely July or later so cutting it close. Classes less of a challenge, first because it’s USC and as a soph you still have a lot of classes to do/choose from, you just may get afternoon or early morning classes. How hard really depends on which ones they want/need. The worst part frankly, is going through the app and waiting to hear again, it really is a distraction for months. They need to guarantee admission with a min GPA, but they don’t. But if CC is preferred initially for a variety of reasons, or they want to go abroad for the first year then it can work great, even with the stress. If they have another great 4 year option, they can use it as a back up, or they can simply move on as many do as well. If a kid just loves USC they can put up with a lot, but some feel they didn’t want me so I don’t want them. Everyone has to decide what is worth what. Very individual decision.
Did you read post #186 back a page on this thread?
@CADREAMIN Thank you for the helpful info as well as the previous posts. It’s definitely unfortunate about the housing situation. Based on what I’ve read, though, current TTP students really seem to like the experience. It’s something to consider.
@buttercup2023 Absolutely! It is great for some kids, no question! Just good to know what’s up going in so you can plan on it and not be frustrated by it. You can save money, study abroad - all kinds of perks, but there are inconveniences too (applying again, getting accepted, housing). I like to share the good and bad if applicable, not just paint a rosy picture, so people are prepared (and not mad later cause they didn’t know).
But if you really want to eventually attend and graduate from USC - then it is certainly a great option to have.
Thanks @buttercup2023 for bringing up the housing issue, and thanks @CADREAMIN for answering. No housing guarantee to transfers could be a major problem. I’m starting to feel like a 2nd class citizen here. Since USC is my DREAM school, I thought I’d be willing to give up some great 4 year offers, but now I’m rethinking. Any other negatives for TTPs you can think of?
@6teenz You don’t have to give up a 4 year and do a cc, you could do TTP from one of your other great options, that way you still get the freshman year experience. If you love it, you stay, if you don’t you apply for TTP. You are using it as a back-up. Lots of ways to look at it.
@6teenz another negative, if admitted, whether as a regular transfer or TTP, once you enrolled, there may be this transfer stigma among students who got in as freshmen. They will give you this attitude that you did not get into as a freshman and not good enough. At the transfer orientation, the discussion leaders emphasized the issue and that transfers got in under very high standards and don’t let this give you a low self esteem or confidence.
S was a TTP this past year after freshman year at a UC. He tells me that the students who were admitted as USC freshmen look down on transfer. He is meeting many at USC who got into Ivies and chose USC’s full ride significant scholarships over Ivies because the parents cannot afford the college costs. I tell S that he start at a very good UC, did very well and got into USC. That is probably why he works so hard at USC and has a near perfect GPA (one A- midway through Spring semester) to show other students that he belongs at USC.
Hello, I am a freshman who has been offered TTP. I currently have a 3.92 GPA and will have completed 31 credits by the time I’m done with my first year. In this case, would I have to worry about being denied?
In what cases are TTPs denied?
@gukgyulie I saw one TTP student get denied on the forums, but it was because they didn’t meet the GPA requirement.
Does anyone know if for the meeting you have to go out to USC for it? or are there regional meetings?
Ya you have to meet with them at USC.
@CADREAMIN hello I really appreciate all the info you are sharing on this thread. If I am being redundant I apologize. Can you give me any horror stories and the reason for applicants not being accepted under the TTP program. I’m nervous and don’t want to end up at said school and not get into USC for sophomore year. It also seems USC let’s any first year transfer so not sure how the odds of acceptance work out. Thanks!!
@kitty72 TTP is all gpa and the right classes. EC’s mean zippo. Totally understand being nervous without a guarantee. But if you hit the right GPA and take the classes suggested you will be fine. They don’t tell you the exact classes to take at your school btw, they tell you the kind of classes USC wants, which is pretty well laid out in the transfer guide. If you have another 4 year you think you would like, you can attend that versus doing a 180 and attending a cc on something not guaranteed. You may find that plan less risky. Also if something comes up - a kid gets mono or struggles for whatever reason and doesn’t make the gpa required, you are already at a 4 year, so there is a bit less risk. But plenty do fine if a cc works for them. It’s also about giving up that freshman experience if you switch from a 4 year to a cc. TTPs certainly have a big bump over a regular transfer, so if any thought you may want to do it, sign up for the meeting. If you love where you are after a semester, just don’t re-apply come February.
The one additional stress factor is no housing guarantee. Only those living at USC as freshman get it as a sophomore. While you may get lucky and get off WL for housing (some certainly do, but find out pretty late so it is stressful), you may end up not being able to live in USC housing during your time there.
Do you know if it’s commonly a problem for TTP students getting housing? also if I get housing for my entry sophomore year, will I be guaranteed for my junior year?
For TTP acceptances, does USC mail out decisions first, or do they update the portals first?
Housing is only guaranteed for freshman, and if you live on campus as a freshman, then again sophomore year.
Mail decisions first.
@LJW101 even if you are accepted to USC as a sophomore, you will not have guarantee housing. If you get accepted early enough, say April, May, apply for housing ASAP. You’ll probably be on a wait list and eventually get in after USC housing sorts out the currently enrolled students who are now on the wait list. If you get admitted in late May, June and after, it gets significantly more risky. For USC housing, if you get on the wait list, the roommates will be random if you are selected for a unit. Private housing is an option. Housing is super competitive around the campus area.
