@UCBUSCalum and everyone else on here take note lol: I am from a single family home and I have fairly below avg grades and stats (3.65 W GPA and 26 act) and I know that some ppl at my school also accepted in ttp aren’t studetns with high stats at all.
@candylover132 : USC reviews applicants holistically and there was something they liked and therefore offered you the TTP. Single family home helps with overcoming adversity.
@CADREAMIN I am on the TTP and I got a 3.857 cumulative GPA for my first semester in the fall and I am on track to completing all of my GE’s in the spring. However, My essays and extracurriculars felt lackluster and I didnt submit a letter of recc. (Optional). Are my chances still relatively high for acceptance?
Yes, very good. ECs mean pretty much zippo for TTP and transfers overall. As a TTP, essays aren’t as critical as the first time you applied, unless they were outright horrible or politically incorrect, my guess is they are fine. It tends to be all about GPA and correct classes which you seem to have nailed. I don’t have a crystal ball obviously, but you should feel good about your position and chance for admission. Way easier to predict a TTP with great stats than anyone else. Good luck, keep us posted!
@CADREAMIN I have a question about my chances for Viterbi as a TTP applicant. I am currently at a CA CC and got a 3.73 last semester (3 A’s including Calc 2 but a B in Physics) and am applying to CSBA. My cumulative GPA is 3.65 because I took 3 classes during summer to try to get all the prereqs done by Fall and I got a B in Calc 1. So as it stands now I applied with 26 units completed with a 3.65 (5 A’s 2 B’s) and 19 in progress for this Spring (Calc 3 and Physics specifically for Viterbi). Also, by the end of Spring, I will have all the GEs completed except for the two that must be taken at USC. I was concerned about the B’s in Physics and Calc 1 so I talked to the USC rep who visited my CC about it and she said it was not a big deal. She said the whole idea is that I had more A’s than B’s and they look at grade trends (A in Calc 2), but I still feel very nervous as I am very set on doing CSBA and I know Viterbi is competitive. My two letter of recs, essays, and ECs are excellent but it seems like they don’t really matter. I was wondering if you could help me realistically understand my chances at Viterbi as a TTP based on what you have seen in the past. Thanks for your time!
Hey everyone! Just post on here once you start to get notifications! We should expect for late march, early april for first notifications, right? I’m waiting for Dornsife.
Repost of first post - this thread has good answers to question in it so just starting it up again…
For those who got TTP in their denial letter - it is not offered to everyone. You are “denied” this year but encouraged to apply next year as a transfer. You have a very good chance of being accepted (almost a guarantee so I wish they would make it one) as a sophomore transfer if you have a good gpa and take the right classes. For those who got TTP in their rejection letter - it is not offered to everyone. You can attend a CC, a state school or any 4 year university for your first year. You can do study abroad through universities that USC partners with. They have more articulation agreements (a list of courses that are acceptable at USC from another school) available from CC and state schools, but there are some from 4 year universities and it is completely acceptable to come from any 4 year. Obviously you may attend your 4 year and decide you want to stay, and say heck with the TTP. If you decide to go for USC as a sophomore you will need to apply as a transfer applicant before February 1st during freshman year (back to the common app again, weeeee).
How does this differ from a regular transfer applicant? The difference - you are given the opportunity to meet with a USC advisor in June or July BEFORE freshman year to make sure you understand what is best for you to take during that first year at your other college - what looks best to increase your transfer chances. They do not go over specific courses at your college, but just an idea what fits into their GEs, and what is good to get over with and bring to USC. They do not offer this consult to “regular” transfer applicants. It may be a way for them to meet you as well, but it is more to go over stuff with you. Apparently, if you meet a 3.7-3.8 recommended gpa first year and get the credits you need (30 I think), you are almost guaranteed a spot. Note almost. It means you may have a little edge over those applying as a transfer without TTP. Nothing is ever guaranteed in college admissions till you get your packet!
You plan on attending another school first. Then you can pursue the TTP by expressing interest and signing up for meeting in summer. Then go to your other school. If it is a CC (2 year), you can work really hard to make the transfer happen. If it is a big 4 year school, I would embrace it, commit to it, and give it a chance. If you don’t love it after first semester, you can apply by February 1st for the transfer as a TTP applicant. If you have adjusted, love your new school and forgot about USC - then just don’t apply. It’s that simple.
Personal thoughts - for those that are 100% committed to graduate from USC it can work out and let you still have your dream, and even save a good amount of money (if you go to a cc for a year for example), or study abroad. Some kids feel if they didn’t want me the first time, I don’t want them later. For others, it’s not a bad back up plan - you can go to another school and if you don’t like it, go for this. For some, it can turn it into a hostage acceptance and because they hang in limbo for a year while trying to meld with the other school and don’t because they still dream of USC. How you treat it is up to you. I would strongly think about whether you really want to change plans or give up another great 4 year college and the freshman experience you could have on a maybe from USC. It is stressful all over again. They go through the acceptance cycle again in the spring. Frankly, I wish they were guaranteed with a GPA, or even a date of acceptance, the stress is unnecessary. Some advisors will be positive and reassuring, others will treat them like they are lucky to even be in this pool and tell them it’s not guaranteed over and over. Not a fan of that.
Point is, some will say heck yes, and some will say, heck no, it is an individual choice. Biggest thing to keep in mind is it doesn’t matter if you are coming from a 2 or 4 year. So don’t feel like you have to attend a cc or state school, or something other than you intend currently, to make USC happy. It doesn’t matter. Make yourself happy. GPA and the correct classes (and re correct classes, still less so compared with regular transfers) are what matter for the Trojan Transfer Plan.
Excellent Repost / Info
For the kids who were accepted for spring-is there anything they have to do fall semester? Can they just take the semester off, like a “gap” semester?
They can do anything, some go to cc or work, even study abroad, some sit on the couch, up to them! Here’s some other info here to get your research started…
If you found this on your denial letter, you are in the right thread…
this decision was especially difficult for us given your ties to the Trojan Family. Your eventual enrollment at USC is of great interest to us, so I invite you to consider the Trojan Transfer Plan, which will assist you in gaining admission to USC as a transfer student within the next two or three semesters. We have set aside time during the summer, during the month of June, for you to meet one-on-one with a member of the admission staff to learn how to maximize your chances of admission for a future term.
If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please visit your USC applicant portal (admission.usc.edu/status) in early May to schedule an appointment. I hope you will consider it. In the meantime, please review the enclosed information for answers to common questions about our review process.
Because you don’t even make an appt until May, you have to commit to another school by May 1st - this is not guaranteed (although almost certain) so you have to make other plans…
@CADREAMIN thank you so much for your vast knowledge on all things USC! my S was offered TTP within his rejection letter a few minutes ago - this might be a great opportunity for him, will definitely look into it! It is nice to have another option!
Has there been a facebook page created for TTP? I want to do it but I am not sure what I want to do for the first two semesters and I would like to connect with some other trojan transfers
@donahuee I would love that! I also was offered TTP and it would be great to connect with other students looking to pursue it.
@donahuee @justine03 There is a TTP facebook closed group that you can join. My S was invited to apply for TTP yesterday as well and this group has lots of knowledge since many have already gone through this process.
What does SGR stand for?
@MozartMama @justine03 great! I requested to join the ttp class of 2022 on facebook because that’s the only one I could find.
@6teenz Spring Grade Request (Required)
@donahuee we joined the USC Trojan Transfer Plan (TTP) Parents - yesterday when we joined, admin offered to have her S speak with my S if he had any question regarding process so I think it is definitely a good resource for students too!
