The Truth about Internal Transfer to Stern from CAS.

Is it possible to internal transfer to Stern after external transferring to CAS?

The website says it’s not possible :(

Vigilant- Yea so to clear it up, they don’t ask you for anything from HS or your SAT score because they already have it when you applied as a freshman. They’ll look at your SAT and hs gpa but i’ve heard that it’s not a major factor. Your College GPA at NYU is the biggest factor, and then it’s your responses. There were three application questions this year, and i think it’ll be the same every year.

1) What has changed since you came here that makes you want to transfer
2) what have you done to better prepare yourself in your new school
3) How will your educational goals be better achieved through your new school

GregFields- Yea… it’s not possible to transfer again. You are going to be in CAS till you graduate, which isn’t bad at all. Personally, i enjoyed the econ classes i took (intermediate level& stats ,etc). I was a Policy Econ and Math double major. The econ classes were fairly easy, i think they are a bit harder for theory track ( i was originally an theory econ&math joint, but decided to do double major instead). Your gpa will probably be higher in CAS if you work, the stern curve is sometimes bs some times helpful so it’s a gamble.

u still econ and math double major? how do u suppose the math difficulty major is? I have a few friends that went the physics route, they say to prepare for a ■■■■■■■■ amount of work and sleepless nights because the major is THAT hard. lmao

No i just transferred to stern so now i’m Finance and math ( big difference… i know /sarcasm). Well… i’m only a first year so i can’t tell you much. I went through the honours track so right now i meet the requirements for a math minor ,aka. i pretty much have a math minor already. I think math major is pretty hard for the majority of the people but it does help you to think analytically. And there is a lot of flexibility that comes with a math major. You can pretty much jump around a huge variety of professions with a math major.

didnt stay econ? haha i prefer econ over finance seems like a better thing to study (preference i guess…)
honors track? how many credits of math have u taken to already have a minor by 2nd year?
(include ap credit -carryover?)

Personally i opted for econ because i actually had course works related to it. But i guess i changed for the perks of being in a B-school. And i’m not too sure bout the minor thing, basically the two courses i took are equivalent to 4 courses in the regular track. And u need 4 courses for a math minor, 12 for a major. Right now I only have to take 10 for a major cuz of the accelerated class i took. So i assumed logically… that i only need those 2 courses for a minor. Makes sense? I hope so! lol

I saw 80+ people transferring into stern this year…haha…(class of 2016)

I am an internal transfer as well. Will our first year’s GPA in other NYU school count or we will start our new cumulative GPAs in Stern?

80+, all internal transfers?

@castostern would you say that it is more difficult for a lsp (in comparison to a cas) student to transfer to stern? I’m not really worried about my gpa for the first year (im an incoming freshman class of 2017) or my sat score but i am worried about the other factors considered in an application. Do they (stern admission officers) consider extracurriculars? My HS ones are pretty good i guess, nothing super extraordinary, but how am I supposed to garner any new particularly impressive extracurriculars by the spring of my freshman year? Do they even care about ECs, or is it just up to the short responses? How can I make my application different or more noticeable to the readers? Also, if I did end up being able to transfer to stern , would I be able to complete my credits in 3 years and graduate within the usual 4 years? In LSP you are only able to take 1 elective your freshman year so this is very inconvenient for trying to fulfill stern major requirements w/ electives beforehand.

wow sorry about the late reply … but u’ve probably found out by now that your gpa from your previous nyu school will carry over after the transfer

@deathblade 127

Yea it’s not that hard … a lot of ppl transfer in lol

definitely harder for LSP kids to transfer to stern… I know some1 that transferred with a 3.97 from lsp LOLOL dude’s a great guy and he puts a lot of effort to learn stuff that lots of stern kids don’t know about finance

It’s mainly just GPA and your short answers. Don’t worry about your extracurricular … they don’t even ask u… u apply on albert and literally 3 short answers and that’s it.

Don’t worry about not being able to finish your credits … u definitely will … I mean one stern concentration requires only 5 classes LOL

Hi.

Can any body tell me if this still holds true. After my CAS admit, can we still apply as an internal transfer to Stern?

HI. I am not sure if you still reply right now since this post is from two years ago. I am an incoming freshman with the exact interests as you do. I want to either major in math-econ joint or do double major. I really wish to transfer to Stern if possible. Do you have any recommended courses I should take in my freshman year. Also, what’s the difference btw a honor calculus course and a non-honor calc class? Is honor class curved?
