Wowā€¦ thanks, Unique! 8D

Just out of curiosity, are candles or incense allowed in the rooms? I know that incense arenā€™t really fire hazardous, but I can see how they wouldnā€™t allow candles.
Iā€™m just not a big fan of febreze.

i dont think so. candles are definitely not allowed. and probably not incense. but check with the school since each one is different.
and fresh air febreeze is the best :)

@ unique6

THANK YOU! Iā€™ll remember this in 2 years when Iā€™m in all of you guysā€™ positionā€¦ lol. No, seriously, this is really great. Thank you!

stuffed animals or not?

bring them :)

I donā€™t know if all my stuffed animals will fit into a luggageā€¦ by the way, does anyone know about how many luggages (large) should you bring?

Great question! Being from many many states away, my Dad suggested I might have to mail some boxes of stuff up, or is it more likely Iā€™ll buy stuff like desk organizational stuff from a local Target?

@Urbangirl - yeah, Iā€™m considering buying stuff like dispensable toiletries, beanbag chairs, food, etc. at the actual place and bringing all my personal/expensive items with me.

what if your school is in the middle of nowhere? ie, hotchkiss? where would you buy things like toiletries and food and little stuffā€¦?

and i have no idea how much luggage to bring, either. iā€™m international so mailing things will cost hundreds of dollars  yikes

@YellowUbi: Bean bag chairs? Haha, you will have a sweet room! Where are you applying?

@DiveAlive: Iā€™d probably shop in a big city you pass while you go and hope it all fits into the trunk of your rental carā€¦ :D

Yeahā€¦ hopefully someone on CC who goes to BS might be able to help us outā€¦ anyone know an active BS student who goes here?

@UrbanGirl: Lol, canā€™t live without a bean bag chair. 8D I love room decorating and design, and if I get into a BS, I canā€™t wait to do stuff with my room.

I applied to (in alphabetical order) Andover, Deerfield, Exeter, Groton, and Milton. And you? C:

I like decorating as well! Places like Deerfield are right up the road from a number of colleges so I imagine thereā€™s something like a Target around!
I like stringing Christmas lights all around the room, so hopefully I can do that if I get into boarding school. Talking about decorating always makes me feel like Iā€™m putting the horse before the cart! I have to get in first, haha.

Are you applying for 9th grade? I donā€™t want to say where I applied if thatā€™s okay! You can PM if you like, though!
By the way, I am guessing youā€™re a girl, like I have to do with everyone unless itā€™s obvious. At least itā€™s apart of my name!

i canā€™t decorate. at all.

my room will be a plain room with like, a futon and a desk. and clutter everywhere, with clothes strewn about. welcome to DiveAliveā€™s room :/

8D Christmas lights are a really good idea! 8D Iā€™d always make paper lanterns, but I imagine the lights would be easier. Imagine if you wrapped plastic wrap around the bulbs. Theyā€™d look like glowing crystals. :D

And maybe we shouldnā€™t plan on dorm decorating yetā€¦ but itā€™s so fun!

Yes, 9th grade. Iā€™ll PM you. C:

XD My room will most likely be a mess, too, mostly with books all over the place. Only itā€™ll be a mess with styleā€¦ ^^

Yes, thereā€™s definitely a difference between decorating and keeping a room clean. I like to organize things but clothing is definitely not on that list. Hopefully they will have lots of space for hangers; to me, theyā€™re easier to keep up with and I like organizing them by color!

@YellowUbi: I am really into origami so for my friendā€™s birthday I made her a strand of origami lights with paper boxes (pretty, colorful ones) covering every other one! They looked awesome.

Ooh, clothes. :C I hope there wonā€™t be drawers (I prefer hangers, as well). Iā€™ve never used drawers for my clothes.

8D Origami is the best! That sounds like it looked really cool. I remember how once, our language arts class made tons of red, origami swans, and we hung them on the cafeteria ceiling. We had a giant Japanese-themed dinner.

Internationals should consider buying bulky items once in the U.S. and storing them on campus during summers. Also, there may be compatibility issues with some items like computers, so buying U.S. models is also a good idea in case your school doesnā€™t actually supply a specific model.

Sorry for the bad news- at my sonā€™s school no christmas lights allowed. Sonā€™s room has a small closet for each roommate and each has a desk and chest of drawers. Can only hang items with poster putty- no nails.
