My HS junior son is very, very undecided about a college major, which is making college hunting difficult. He likes music (excellent clarinet player), PLTW engineering but not math, and enjoys Shakespeare in his AP Lit class. He tests well (199 PSAT) but hates homework, so his GPA is just 3.2. I'm looking for suggestions of schools in the lower 48 that offer a great freshmen program for The Undecided.

I am aware of two schools that offer this. Notre Dame places all of its freshmen in The First Year of Studies program and 20% of Bradley University's freshmen enroll in its Academic Exploration Program. So, what other colleges out there offer something similar to these OR have a good reputation for working with The Undecided?

Most college students are among The Undecided even if they don’t know it yet. In the USA it is the exception rather than the rule that you need to commit to a major up front in choosing a college. This is an issue primarily for pre-professional programs in fields such as agriculture, architecture, business, engineering, nursing, pharmacy, etc.

Most state universities have a College of Arts and Sciences (or something functionally equivalent). At most private national universities, and by definition at virtually all private Liberal Arts Colleges, the focus is on liberal arts and science fields (biology, chemistry, economics, english, history, psychology) that do not require you to declare a major until late in your second year or so.

tk21769, thanks for the input, however, it’s not on topic. I am well aware that most colleges and majors don’t require a student to commit to a major immediately. I’m looking for colleges that offer a program, with dedicated staff and resources, specifically for undecided freshmen (such as Bradley’s) or enrolls all of its freshmen in a broad based first year program (such as Notre Dame’s).
