As for the BBB certification, 60 Minutes recently did an episode exposing the BBB for recognizing businesses that choose to pay memborship fees as good business and those that don’t as bad businesses.

Hey Awathu,
I know it’s been a long time since your post, but was the yearbook they sent you worth the money as a keepsake? just looking for your opinion.

You are not paying for the “honor”. You are paying for the yearbook. They will print your child’s bio (with permission) even if you don’t order the yearbook. And the person is still eligible for the scholarships they offer.

My daughter received one of these letters from her Anatomy teacher.

Even though it may not hold a lot of value in her college admissions, the value of the boost to her confidence in her own abilities is worth the $60.00 for a yearbook. Especially since she had a few troubling years in school and has now brought her averages in 3 of 4 core classes to 100%, and the 4th being 99.5%.

Just something I personally had to consider.

I note that the voices most supportive of this program have posted on CC in the single digit range…trolling for the organization?

My science teacher nominated me fell for it bought it they send you a certificate and a year book that isnt in alphabetical order so you look for yourself for 30 minutes and then you find yourself and are disappointed i have a 4.0 got excites and thought it was legit but it isnt they send you one every year after that just so they can keep making money

Rule of thumb…. if you have to pay for an award, its probably a scam.

No it’s not a scam if you buy the yearbook I garuntee you’ll receive it it will just take some months but I got nominated for the same thing you did a couple years back and my parents wanted to buy the yearbook book so we did and it’s worth every penny, I mean I regular year book at school is about what 70?, this one is only 50 including shipping. The yearbooks are hardback, leather with a gold imprented title and the symbol. Also on the bottom with be the year you were nominated
I can tell you from personal experience this is not fake. I was nominated in the 97-98 edition. I did pay the money and I did receive the yearbook. I’m not sure how many people actually know about this achievement but it is still cool to tell people especially people that you are trying to impress, such as school admin. Employers and so on. Hope this helps.
The way I was told is that there are multiple categories but only one person per category per state is allowed in the book per year. I did get in the book and I know what my achievement was. My teacher nominated me and I’m assuming it was impressive enough at the time to get me in. I received a yearbook a certificate and a couple other small things. I was in vol 149 I believe. 1997-1998. It is helpful when applying for schools colleges that recognize it. And it’s just plain out fun to brag about if u want to impress someone by proving u r smarter than them or picking up a mate. If intelligence is important to them. Lol
I have purchase one of the yearbooks. It’s cool to have and nice to have proof of your accomplishment. There r a bunch of categories. And u do have to have a real achievement to get in. Such as me, I more than aced geometry in the 9th grade. That’s y I got in. And my teacher told me that it was she who nominated me. And if I remember correctly, the yearbook people tell u why or at least what category u r nominated in.
Sionann, I totally agree. The boost of confidence is worth the $60. Boosted mine. Made me try harder. Till the 11th grade when I realized I was far more advanced than some others and slept thru the subject and still got a low A. J/s.
