The University of Edinburgh in the UK

Keep in mind that in the past several years, applicant numbers at St Andrews has SOARED, starting when it was announced that Prince William would be attending. That made the admissions rate go down, but did not make the quality of the school necessarily go up. Keep that in mind when reading stats from St Andrews, as many stats will be drawn from that time frame.

Also admissions rates at UK unis cannot be compared to those of US unis since many people will not enrol at a school and a lot of people will not meet their conditional offers.

I applied to both St. Andrews and Edinburgh and was accepted to both, as an american student looking to get an English degree. Just to give a little perspective into both schools, they are both completely charming. I visited little over a month ago and could happily have gone to either, as a girl who has never lived outside of New York.

Edinburgh was very prompt in sending me an offer, i applied freakishly early and heard back by mid October. However, i got a conditional, although the conditional was an SAT subject test and the required score was completely doable, given my previous scores on other tests.

St. Andrews sent an unconditional soon after, and they are known for a fantastic Creative Writing program. However, when i visited it was swarming with Americans, and my feeling was that if i wanted to be with all Americans, i could’ve gone to school here and saved myself the air fare.

Edinburgh is significantly larger, but the kids seemed cool and they have NICE facilities, from what i saw.
