The USABO 2008 Club

Uhh I’m not going to have enough time to fully go through the last few chapters of Campbells (ie. ecology and nervous system) - does anyone how much the open exam traditionally tests on these concepts? I think the website said something like 5-10% but I know a few years ago, there were way more questions than 5-10%.

nervous system = important, at least skim through it.

Ecology is a joke in more ways than one, you could use common sense to answer most of those questions correctly.

USABO Open Exam was a little harder than I expected. I didn’t have the Campbell book, but another textbook, plus studying and practicing other bio exams.

About time the AMC12 banned calculators =) Though we finished barely a minute before school closed due to ‘inclement weather.’

AMC 12 BANNED CALCULATORS? and I took the USABO without studying. My teacher just passed out the tests and explained like it was no big deal. It is definitely a big deal! Keep in mind, her AP Biology sscore average is around 4.8-5.

I’ll join this club :]

Definitely study Campbell and get the Raven plant bio book if possible. They love to put questions about plant info that’s beyond Campbell in the semi exam.

If you signed up for the SAT II test for June and make camp, I suggest you just move the SAT date because camp is a pretty big deal. Plus you get free TI 89s and lab coats XD

Oh by the way guys…the cutoff score isn’t as high as that…

It’s usually around half of the questions right. so the 25-28 region. I believe it was 26 last year.

haha my AP bio teacher’s average score is a flat 5.0
and earthquake, do you think you made it w/out studying?

btw yeah join this club, its uberexclusive and we have free cookies every saturday

SATs can be taken during camp, but it’s inconvenient. If you have the option and honestly think you’ll make camp, reschedule.

i don’t honestly think i’ll make camp at all

and it does seem inconvenient, but i am going to take 3 SAT2s, including some required ones.

then again, i’m almost 99% sure i won’t make camp so haha who cares

If the cutoff’s around half of the questions, plus a handful, I think I’ll stand a decent shot to make semifinalist, as well as maybe another student from my school.

so far everyone who’s taken it at my shcool have made it to semifinalist, lol. but that’s about 5 people -_-

I think I got around a 25. I guessed somewhat randomly on about 15, but I’m pretty sure about the rest.

Cut-off was 30 last year. I took it both years and would say this years was about the same difficulty.

Yeah, I’d say so. I probably got around 10 wrong, so here’s to hopefully getting a 40, lol.

hey guys, tell me all ur answers, i’m taking it tomorrow (emailed them cuz of snow day, said it was ok)

I probably got a maximum of 30 haha. most likely less

I sincerely wish my school could offer at least a little more than the nothing that they do now, ugh, stuck in a swamp of rural schools that would rather have nothing to do with academic stuff…

well u can go to some local universities that offer the tests

Anybody else take it?

woot i took it, i guessed on 15 questions and so far got one wrong, cuz i looked up one of them
